Resonable Price for '07 Exige S

Hi all,

I'm looking to jump into the lotus community and I've been checking out this '07 Exige S w/ lifestyle paint (chili red), trackpack, touring pack, traction control, starshield. Car has between 6-7k miles, and the dealership is asking $59,800 for it. Seems a bit high based on other Exige S's that are for sale around my area (So Cal), so I was going to make an offer of $55,500 for the car.

What do you guys think about my offer price? Too low? Too high? I test drove the car yesterday and my god.......simply amazing!!!

Thanks for you input

they could be bought, identically equipped, for less than their ask when new.

location plays a big factor in pricing. better prices outside of socal, for sure.

For $59K, you could pretty much by a brand new Exige S from Beverly Hills Lotus. They're offering $7K off any Exige S they have in stock. (And no, I don't work for them. )

I bought a used '07 Exige S with every option, except LSD, for $53K last summer from a person in San Diego. It had 2,000 miles at the time. You should be able to find something for around $50K, if you buy from a private party. I'd offer less and see where their counter offer comes in... The worst thing that happens is they say "no thanks".

You also have to be willing to walk away. I've made reasonable offers that have been turned down by dealers, only to be called by the salesperson minutes after leaving the lot to tell me that they'll take my offer.

I appreciate all the responses. I found out a little bit about the Exige S I'm looking at. Apparently it was a factory demonstrator car, so it has never been sold before. I already requested that the dealership do an ECU drop on the car (pretty sure that's what its called) to find out the history of the engine.

I'm going around to check out some other cars today but if they don't except an offer of low 50's then I'll definitely have to check out the Beverly Hills lotus

If it was a press car, be wary, as they flog the crap out of those cars.

Make sure you correct your terminology and say "ECU Dump" instead of Drop when speaking with the dealership.

I think the dealer can also wipe out an ECU when they get the car. I mention this because I once went to a dealer and test drove an Exige S. After the test drive, the dealer told their chief tech to wipe the ECU. I never abused the car -especially because I was very close to buying it but it's just something to consider.

This is, unfortunately, true.

prodigy, I would also check out Newport Beach Lotus. Kevin Smith is the guy I would recommend. http://www.lotusnewportbeach.com/inv...=Exige%20S

He is also very respectful with negotiating.

I put dealer demos thru their paces to show prospective buyers what the cars can do. Based on the "respect" I and the other instructors showed to these cars, I'd make sure I checked that car real well before buying it.

Off topic, but every time I see a Black or Canyon Red Exige S, I get aroused

Prodigy already bought the S. I was at the dealer yesterday, and was told he is taking delivery this weekend. Congratulations!

Bavarian-his isn't canyon red, but a real red, AKA Chilli.

Picked up my new little baby yesterday...I feel like a kid again. Its EXACTLY how a sports car/exotic should make you feel. Every time I think its sitting in my garage I the biggest smile across my face! Everything is just SO extreme, the body, the ride, the attention the car gets. I was expecting maybe a couple more heads turning driving down the road but I didn't expect people to be turning around and following you until you're out of sight!!! I even had this one girl snapping pictures of the Lotus when I was driving! This is a completely new world I wasn't ready for! Thanks to all who helped in answering my questions!!

I'm going to put a nice fresh layer of wax down then a large photoshoot is in order!
