Europa Spotted by SELOC

Thought you might like these. I think it actually looks pretty good in the first picture. I still don't like those rear lights. Very cheap and nasty looking.

How come the Elise next to it looks like it's wearing snow tires?

Looks even worse in person. Like an Elise on steroids (bloated). Who approved that design?

Lotus CEO to design team:
"Gentlemen, I want to congratulate you all on your superior effort. Once again, you have truly captured the Lotus tradition in a more road friendly package. Thank you."

"Now, would someone please ask the valet to bring my Eclat around to the front door."

Reminds me of a station wagon from the back. Too bad.

Call me crazy, but I rather like it in those shots. The back end is still styled incorrectly, but the rest of the angles make it look rather nice. If the interrior was more than just a slightly polished up Elise interrior and the back end was restyled, I'd certainly say this car could compete in the GT cruiser category. We've go to keep in mind that it's not aiming to compete in the Elise/Exige segment...the Europa makes a very nice grocery getter

I think the styling looks somewhat aggressive in these photos, but not my kind of aggressive. I think they should refer to the original Europa for styling cues. That car was/is gorgeous

I don't think it's looks are too bad. Well, the back kinda sucks (looks more Asian than European, IMO). However, I don't get the point. I get the Exige, but not sure what Lotus was after with this car. People who want luxary should just buy a Z4 or SLK, or Audi TT. It's like they're trying to break into a market that doesn't have heart for what Lotus is.

I reaaally want to like this car, but it doesn't stir much in me like the Elise. In fact, when side by side it makes the Elise look a little worse as they share many design similarities.

Again, I haven't seen it in the flesh but I think it needs the following:

1) A new rear: the mercury couger tail lamps just don't do it

2) more width: A center arm rest and a proper center console would make the car more comfortable for longer trips (and make it different than the elise/ exige)

3) new engine: Either the easy Toyota SC unit OR the 3.0 6 cyl from the APX. Min 260 hp.

4) LED headlights: more agressively styled

5) Design retouch: The body needs to be cleaned up. It lacks flow. Also a bit too heavy in the chin. Sides need more detail and the way the rear clam flares from the doors doesn't look right.

It lacks continuity. Specifically, the vents. The front, top, and sides are large black shapes. Ok, fine. The rear has those vents (or fake vents, doesn't matter in this case) that are split by a body-colored part. It just doesn't *match* the look of the rest of the car.

Additionally, at the rear, the bottom of the taillights does not line up with the bottom of the trunklid, it's offset for some reason.

Then of course there's the tacked on rear spoiler...yuck!

This is just not a good design.

First, it's ugly.

Second, it's based on the Elise, but doesn't abide by the lightweight principles in that it's larger, heavier, and basically lower performing than the Elise.

Third, despite being larger and heavier, it adds few amenities such as interior room, storage capacity, luxury features, etc.

Reminds me of the line "poor, fat, and stupid is no way to go through life..." - it's ugly, fat, and marketless....
