Keep in mind that the speed is in KMH. Great acceleration from 160kmh (100 mph) up when he leaves the cop in the dust.

did ya'll notice that the scandinavians know how to drive well and courteous enough to allow passing with oncoming traffic? both directions pull to the side and let the passer split the middle... till you get an a-hole or a idiot that's not paying attention. BAM! Not many accidents in those countries, but they're usually fatal. I saw a busy passing a semi, with a bus coming the other way... that was a little freaky.

You'll see an Omega at LOG 27 in Aspen in 2007!

funny how back then it was such an amazing car (remember the quattroruote article when it first came out) but today... well... a basic 540i bmw (a 550i would be overkill) would beat the pants of it. But, I wonder how it would 'feel' to drive vs. current cars.. steering, braking, shifting (you could actually shift it!!!)... power vs driving enjoyment... which would win?

i will go look it up, but this quote strikes me as dead wrong!

an M5 yes, but not a swaying big 5 series ????

edit: (research done)

BMW 5 Series Saloon (96-04) 540i 4dr:
Max power 286bhp
Kerb weight 1,660kg
0-60 mph 6.2secs

Current BMW 5 Series Touring 550i SE 5dr
Max power 362 bhp
Kerb weight 1,795 kg
0-60 mph 5.6secs

Lotus Omega (per article above quoted)
power = 370bhp
"which would see you to 100km/h or 62mph in 5 seconds flat"
"Pretty funny, that: a lot of the supercars of the time had the potential to outrun this car, but few of them actually did."
"the 1991 model year Opel Lotus Omega/Vauxhall Lotus Carlton has every chance (and wish) to bring the decade younger BMW M5, the car which is the holy grail of performance four-doors today, to its knees in the most spectacular manner."

The Omega has a top speed of 283 kph (176 mph). The cop car in the video topped out at 205 kph (127 mph). No contest.

I'd love to have one of these too. One of the few sedans I like.

I was just thinking that if the chase was in the US, a video out of the rear window would be full of all kinds of agricultural, and aboreal racing skillz

There are four currently listed for sale in the UK on autotrader.co.uk - one with less than 8,000 miles. Again all are RHD Lotus Carltons (the UK base car is called Vauxhall Carlton, European/LHD ones are Opel Omega). Surprisingly, the place I usually find rare cars listed for sale doesn't have any on it. However they do have some othe rare Lotus cars available: http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/find...facturer=10074

Also check http://www.carclassic.com/ they've usually got a lot of interesting cars, but no Lotus at the moment.

I competed in the Silver State Classic (160mph class) in 2000/1 with my self built Lotus Carlton race car, and another Lotus Carlton road car (also from England) entered the same events in the touring class. For more info see www.racecar.co.uk/lotuscarlton
I have had enquiries about importing the LHD Omega version to the United States, but as it was never type approved for Federal use it would be difficult.

These guys also did videos with motorcycles and other car chases.

If you search on ghostrider you can see some of the bike movies.

Over 200 mph wheelies on a Hayabusa outside Stockholm (Capital of Sweden)
Nuts but great videos,

Rarely would I jump in to say "that's older than the internet", but seriously, that video has been circulating the web for close to ten years! Where've you been?

I agree. Seen the video years ago.

Nevertheless, a good repost for someone who hasn't seen it.
