Lotus race cars

The thread about the type 23 made me google for it. Found a nice link where you can view nice lotus racers. 1st link is the ones for sale. The second one sold....

(to the moderator) I put this in the Elise section to keep to 2 threads together. If it's against posting regulations, feel free to re-direct.

Here's a race car for ya. It's a 1968 Lotus Type 61 Formula Ford.
1600cc ford 4 banger. Not the fastest car in the world but a blast to drive.
A second one for the team wil be on it's way soon.

cheers,

Al "phonse" B.

Details? I've wanted a 51 for just about ever.

I think I know where there's a Titan for sale you might like. Let me send a couple of emails.

Edit: it's a 6a.

That 51 belongs to one of the gents in CVAR and is a damn fast car and a beautifully maintained example.
At Hallet this past October, at the last CVAR event a new track record for Group 6, (open wheel FF), was set by another gentleman in another type 51.
He also beat out every other FF car in his class which included Lotus type 61's, Merlin MK.11, Titan Mk. 6's and a few other types.
"More competitive"?
If I could fit in that car and the price was right I would jump on it. Unfortunately I am one of those fuller-figured types whose large butt and wide shoulders just does not fit.
If the car is indeed for sale and you are interested, let me know and I will pass along the gentlemans name and where you can get a hold of him. The car is in Texas.

We should talk!!!

If you're a die-hard Lotus nut a good place to start is (parts aren't to difficult to find and racing one is relatively inexpensive) -
Super 7
Lotus 18 F/Jr
Lotus 20 F/Jr
Lotus 22 F/Jr
Lotus 51 F/Ford
Lotus 61 F/Ford

If you don't care if it's a Lotus then...
Spridget (Sprite / Midget
Elva
Pony car - Mustang, Camaro, etc
to name a few...

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

OK, I'm in - provided we start with this little gem (currently for sale):
http://www.can-am-cars.com/productca...&idproduct=367

If that won't do, they also have a Shadow up for grabs.

Cody,

If you are truly interested in vintage racing look up the CVAR site. Lot's of useful information on getting into vintage.
Best to start with something that's going to be easy to maintain and live with. CVAR has only 7 events in a year. It'd be a shame to miss an event because of mechanical issues.
Believe me I know.

Oh, I'd love to get an old Elva, Lotus, or Lola some day and have a go - I daydream about running an old Can-Am car but would be comepletely thrilled to run something as "mundane" as an old BMW 2002 or Datsun 510.

Maybe some day. I definitely think I'd get on better with the CVAR crowd than the modern racing crowd.

Yep, much more relaxed and user friendly. We have various groups that when they get together you'd think it was a bunch of kids yucking it up rather than a bunch of racing senior citizens. Not to worry, we're not all that old.
At Hallett an anouncement was made that someone was in need of a Spitfire rotor. Three showed up within an hour. You won't see anything like that an SCCA event.
Good luck on whatever you decide, hope to see you out there mixing it up with the senior citizens soon.

Al, in the ChaseCam business, we have talked to many racing teams and organizations, and that is one thing that we have heard a bit... that the camaraderie was excellent in vintage.
