I bought this Lotus Other Elite Type 75 | eBay
on a whim and am waiting for it to be shipped to Atlanta.
Im not finding much information on the web, can someone point me in the right direction?
Congrat's! It looks to be a pretty decent example. You'll have fun detailing it. I had pretty much its twin back in the late 70's. It was a nice car and fit 4 just fine. Enjoy!
Thank Y'all for the welcome into the Lotus world and the good information. I will look up both the mentioned Elite owner and the Atlanta based(how convienant) group.
How do I become capable of sending private messages?
I joined the above mentioned Group and asked for imformation. Tim Engel replied with a wealth of imformation.
I have never been in one of these groups . I dont really understand why one would use the group format vs a msg board like this one. Maybe Im missing something.
At any rate i now have a very good list of what I need to look at when the car comes off the trailer.
Mail-Lists or Newsgroups predate the modern Forum.
While they do no treat the eyes as well as a Forum, the Files sections of these groups can be a wealth of documented knowledge. And, it's all in one place, no wading through pages of comments to find a particular piece of information. (Torque values, or repair procedures, or cross reference lists come to mind.)
I think I have a new clutch cable for one of those leftover from last I had one. I sold off the new 45mm Delorttos and manifold/airbox and English cams to a Jensen Healy guy. Pretty fun car to drive. Yours is nice looking. I think by '76 they had engineered out the oil leaks between the head and block. Those take 7/8" diameter Girling wheel cylinders in the back, which I understand are super hard to find. I bought three each last summer for like $35 each for my Cortina. That was all I could find. It is easier to find .7" or .75" bore wheel cylinders. the 7/8" are more difficult. http://www.classicpart.co.uk/listing/ford-cortina-1600e-gt-lotus-elite-corsair-wheel-cylinders/
I think I've seen that car before. I live right across the Straits from Victoria.
I've had two Elites, a very early 74 (#12 I think) and a 76.
Great cars once sorted, but a few things that may have you cursing Lotus. I recall, the AC/H ester vacuum valve being one such joy.
