Thinking about going out again this weekend!

So I'd like to go out again while we still have nice weather. I'm thinking Sunday--I want to be back in time for trick-or-treaters Saturday, which would mean heading home pretty early. I'm also thinking it might be nice to get an earlier start this time. So...

How about meeting Sunday at 8 AM at Waffle House (3929 Battleground Ave
Greensboro, NC 27410) (mmmm waffles, plus there are a couple of gas stations right there!), then heading out at 9 AM for the mountains? If you don't want waffles you could just show by 9 (but mm waffles!). We can go up to Squirrel Spur again, or whatever. We can do lunch somewhere up there too.

Anybody? Too early?

I would love to go again Sunday. Could I talk you into meeting for waffles at 9 instead of 8 though? If not, I could probably make 8, but it would be much easier with the extra hour coming from statesville.

9 might be better. I have a drive of 1:15 over there, so meeting at 8 would mean leaving home before 7...that is a bit early on a Sunday...

Cool. It's also a well known fact that waffles digest better at 9 than 8 due to gravitational effects of the sun's alignment....so the waffles would be happier as well.

Awesome, see you in the morning!

I sort of have a possible route, but since I haven't driven it I have no idea if it will be good or not. So if anyone has any ideas please bring them!

mmm unfortunately for this drive I've run into a slight problem. Due to my friends alcoholic tendencies (college) and my spontaneous lifestyle (ha ha) it looks like I will be at NC state tonight (complete opposite direction) and not making it tomorrow.

How long are you guys planning on staying up in the SS (squirrel spur) area?

Don't forget, we're gaining an hour tonight, so 9am tomorrow tomorrow would be 10am tomorrow tonight.

Pictures from today...

That was fun! A bit damp, but at least it wasn't raining too much.

(that was when we stopped so I could drop off the rather large rock I had removed from the middle of the lane! wouldn't have been fun to hit that coming around a curve...)

this was on a side road we went just a little way down...too slippery to really drive on!

and just for artistic fun...

Looking to meet up with some fellow LotusTalkers for a drive

Hi everyone,
I've found this thread, and would really like to check out Squirrel Spur. Moved to Durham about 4 months ago, and really haven't had time to find a good, curvy road. I'm on vacation starting Nov 7 until the 14th, and I'm aching to drive my car other than on a freeway or around Durham. Does anyone plan on setting up another group run? If so, I'd really like to come. Also, while we're on the topic of good roads, does anyone know of any decent routes around the Triangle area that would take maybe an hour round trip? (The wife and kids get cranky when I disappear for too long.)

Hi Cameron,
Welcome to Durham! I'm always up for a run, but I'm busy the 7th and 14th...if you want to go during the week we might be able to do something though (I'm self employed). Savet and I were talking about doing something the 21st or 22nd if the weather's nice, but these tend to be all-day things (today I left home in Durham at 7:45 AM and didn't get back until 4:30 or so).

As far as local Durham roads go, I don't know too many yet as I'm also new to the area. If you can, come to Brier Creek this Saturday morning and say hi!

^ looks like it was a fun trip! I'll check back at this post to see about future drives.

I ended up not getting home until 1 PM and the weather wasn't that great so I put these stripes on instead (Maggie I don't know how you did such a good job on your old car, those were the biggest pain to put on!)
