Add some details:
Date:
Time: Start-finish (approximately)
Distances/destinations:

Unfortunately, too many of the rides we've set up recently in this region just die on the vine. The interest is initially there... but by the time an event approaches... people start to bail... or disappear. Whats up with this?

WOW I just looked at this! We have done it before but we did it over night, Now I see why. 300 miles one way! Little to far for a one day deal!

I don't know why this happens, but the weather is getting wonderful and maybe we could just plan a quick half day drive; South Mtn, Secret Base Camp, Tortilla Flats, and I have heard of some road outside of Wickenburg that is fun and twisty. Or even Jerome! And lets plan something for soon, as in the next few weeks. Me and Jcworks are dying to get out and drive with some Lotus peeps!

Yeah... this sounds great. I've just been going on rides around the area over the past 5 weekends anyway (except last weekend... I was back east... and was crusin' on a boat on the Chesapeake Bay). With the weather getting nicer, lets just go... despite all of the bailouts... or bailors... or whatever we want to call them! Perhaps we'll just plan a nice ride somewhere... maybe to a lake, pond, mountain, park...where-ever... stop for a good lunch... and maybe a bit more of a ride somewhere else in the area. I don't need to drive for hours on end to enjoy a great day out in the Lotus... especially with a few other Lotus cars & their owners.

How about Sat. Oct. 3th? That's 1 week from today. If this is acceptable then we can determine some possible destinations.
Whoever else wants to join in can just add their name to this list.

I have a committment on Sat. 10-10, but I am free the next day Sun Oct. 11th if this will work. The weather is already getting better day by day.
Let me know what you think of this... or if anyone else may be interested in joining in.

Tortilla flats, I think. Devil's Highway should be a 2 day trip.

What about stopping at Tortilla Flats and then staying on Apache Trail (88) all the way to Roosevelt Lake? Now I've never done this before or even been there before... is this even possible?

I wouldn't want to go there via 87/Beeline highway or US 60 because it would be about a 2 hour 20+ minutes each way on just regular highways... but the other way could be a bunch of twisty unfamiliar roads... that is if it goes all the way through.

If not... we could always stop at the Goldfield Ghost Town returning from Tortilla Flats for lunch, snack, drink etc...

Any input or other suggestions?

Jeff - You can do it, but only if you like driving on gravel. The pavement ends about a mile or two past Tortilla Flats. Look for the sign, and don't ignore it!

Okay... this is a bit absurd... but it kind of goes back to the point I made earlier in this post... plans are made... then as the date approaches the bailing begins. What's up with this???

Nevertheless... I'm still going out on Sunday somewhere so whoever is left and still interested joining in a ride... post a response and we'll coordinate a meeting place and time. I've got all of Sunday reserved for this... so I'm game for traveling anywhere... within reason. Anything interesting happening on Sunday somewhere in the metropolitian Phoenix area... like an outdoor car show? Other ideas of interest?

Sorry about that. I realize that things come up and plans change. It's just that we haven't been able to get even one ride to occur in a long time. So I apologize for coming off a bit harsh. We'll just keep things open for another time.

I understand 2006PolarBlueElise's frustrations. Since January I've been on both sides, having too much free time when I'm in town but traveling a lot and not being in town some weekends. I've only been on one drive here in Phoenix and it was a blast but this group of owners are tough to lock down and I think it takes someone like Chad to put an "official" drive together to get people together.

I don't think his comment was directed at you, Hotrod. We just don't have the numbers that other car groups have so when one bails it either falls apart or the dates move around. We also have to drive a ways to find interesting roads, definitely not like southern California where they seem to be everywhere. I used to meet up with the RX-8/RX-7 guys once a month in Riverside. It was a sizable group so if a few had to duck out for whatever reason there were still enough cars to have a good time. Not sure we have that luxury.

I have a friend visiting next week so I'll most likely be taking a drive through Phoenix South Mountain Park. I might just post a thread and see if there's any interest in a meet. If a few people show up, great! Otherwise, I'm sure I would still have fun on my own.
