Had a bit of an impromptu GTG at the shop today... We all accomplished a ton of great stuff.

I posted some pics here: TurboPhil's Shop Log

Cheers,

Phil

Front Clam Ouchie -- insurance / repair question

Now, I know none of you have ever hurt an innocent clam...but maybe you have some opinions on what i should do.

Last night, sitting at a light, the woman in front of me decided to go into reverse. Although I laid on that horn the second I saw the white lights, I don't think she heard or knew it was directed toward her.

Here's the issue -- i have some damage to the front clam. I took it to Eveland Bros. today who quoted me right around $6,000 to repair (not replace) the clam. Looks like a pretty big chunk of that estimate is the 16 hours to remove and install it .

I spoke to the insurance company who told me I can either go to one of their authorized service centers (they have a lot of Ford dealers, for example, as well as places with the name of the street they are located on in their names), or they can send an adjuster to make an estimate and I can go anywhere.

I'm a little unsure about this. I am guessing that their adjusters will first wonder what the car is "what is that? Lotus Elise. Who makes it? Lotus. Yeah, but who makes it..." then some up with some number not understanding the whole clam thing.

The other option is going to..um...well, heck, overland park jeep / eagle / mitubushi and dealing with overspray the rest of the time i have the car.

Any thoughts or ideas of what any of you would do? I mean, I think 6k is high for a repair, since i've read about people getting new ones for less than that, but I really don't know any other repair shops, and so don't know if they are on this "Preferred Service Provider" list.

Thoughts anyone?? Thanks for your advice!

Ya go to Kelly Williams. He did my car and J's car so he atleast knows the deal wit the Lotus. Don't tell him what your other repair estimates were.
Kelly will likely be cheaper than your other est.... He's down in my neck of the woods at about 210th and metcalf...

913-897-2404... Ask for Kelly...

Also use Norman (parts manager) at the new St. Louis Lotus/Bentley dealer for any parts you need . He's a good guy...

Good luck!

Phil

Thanks Phil! Does Kelly's shop have a name? That way I don't really have to deal with anything -- otherwise, I get...The Adjuster (sounds like a crappy Monday night situation drama, doesn't it?)...

I'm still glad your light stayed in, although the quote includes a new part since the poor lil' guy is scratched.

Ben says to get The Adjuster. oooh for good times...

Spring Cleaning

Hey All,

Robert, Jeremiah, and Dr. G mentioned were talking of GTG for a spring cleaning of sorts. Sounds like a great idea!!!!

The Time and Day: 11AM? On Sunday, May 3rd

The Place: Phil’s house.

The subject: Detail/wax/wash/whatever the cars along with chewing the fat about cars, the opposite sex, politics, Mac computers, and ????
What to bring: Your favorite car detailing accessories. I’m sure there will be extra detailing paraphernalia floating around if you don’t have any of your own AND food/drink. Most of you know that all I have is a sparsely populated fridge with purple Gatorade, beer, and Dr. Pepper, so keep that in mind if you're relying on me for refreshment!

Extras: There will be an unprofessional photographer (i.e. Mike) on site to taking unstaged photos of you working on the cars.

So far we've got

Ben
Mike
Dave S
Phil
Dr. G
The Johnsons?
Rob?

Later,

Phil

Hi there, don't own a Lotus but the more I read on here the more I'm considering it. I'm at Fort Leavenworth. Seems to be a few Lotus owners in the area. Thought I'd say hi.

Hi, and welcome to LotusTalk. You should have come by yesterday. We had ten cars present mostly for shining, but one clam hinge got installed, and Bobbie got his secondary cam working. And a couple of super charger guys were giving demo rides. And there may have been a few stories.

Anyway, we look forward to meeting you. We don't have a regular meeting date, but they will probably pick up with the nice weather.

Thanks, I'll be checking back in here periodically. Not looking to buy for a year or two but I like to have something to aim for.

We usually email those we have email addresses for. If you PM me your email address, I will make sure you get added to list.

Are you the red Elise I passed on State Line (about College) a couple years ago? There have been a couple of sightings of a red Elise that were not mine, but we haven't found the owner.

Sorry it's not me.... I'm an east side guy (Blue Springs) and she's a "chili red" Exige. I did see a red one in LakeWood in Lee's Summit 2 times last year

I'll PM my email

New Owner

Hey guys, I wanted to let you know that I am the new owner of a 2005 BRG Elise! I live in Lenexa and you may seem me around K10 and K7 area. These boards are quickly consuming my life as I learn and do things to my new car. Hopefully there will be a Lotus meet up again. I'd like to see what else everyone has.

Hey Jay!

We'll be due for another get together probably in a few weeks - it seems we do one every season / 3 months or so...

I'm sure that Phil / Mike / Derek / Lisa / Bobby / Jae / Etc... will chime in anytime now

Oh cool! The color I wish I had! Fantastic to have you aboard. I was thinking that we're probably about due for another GTG myself... Although I've got to plan out a little ways this time of year. Will be traveling a fair bit until the second week in August. How does August look for others?

Also, we MUST plan a trip to MAM this year. Perhaps we do a find the line event???

Thoughts?

Welcome! I'm glad to have a little more color around. Most of these guys are just so monochrome ...

Margo starts school August 12, so I should be here then. Bev is on jury duty July 20, and we are trying to work in a driving trip to Disneyland in between. I will probably be gone the first part of August.
