Anyone renting an Elise on the Big Island? - LotusTalk

I'll be in Hawaii for two weeks and I was hoping to get some seat time in an Elise. Do any of the exotic car rental places rent an Elise?

Don't know, however there are places on Oahu (wrong island I know) that rent exotics. The Big Island is a great place to drive. I'd fly into Hilo and drive all the way around. Going counterclockwise from Hilo - Wow! You are going to love that. Stop at Akaka Falls and Waipio Valley (The Place of Refuge). Drive through the Parker Ranch (I took the upper road). I'm so jealous. Have to do that again someday! You know, you might be better off taking a 4WD vehicle for the Saddle Road, although rental car places don't like you going on the Saddle Road last time I checked. You'll need something besides an Elise if you do that anyway, I think.

Update:

I think you are out of luck on The Big Island. There's (supposedly) only one place that rents exotics and it's in Kona (opposite side from Hilo): http://www.aloha-car.com/aloha-cars/ There are better choices on Oahu and Maui.

IMHO, it's not about what you drive, but what you see out the window and what's under your feet and between your toes. Also what's between your ears... your mindset. You have to really slow down to get the most out of your Hawaiian experience, brah. Although I must say that driving an exotic car on the Big Island would be amazing. I rented a red XK8 convertible the last time I was on Oahu and it was great. But I lived their for 4 years and never really left that island in my mind.

Careful Renting Exotics in Hawaii, They get really beat up, a friend of mine rented an RX8 (exotic

). 2ND did not stick synchros were gone and at the end of the trip the clutch failed too ...... So check it out very carefully before you rent! (that was on Oahu)
