Can anyone identify this car? (Japanese Exige)

Found a cool Exige while browsing some Japanese Lotus Tuning sites. The pictures were small and crummy resolution, so I did my best trying to enlarge them. What I can conclude about this car is that it is originally an Exige (the front clam grill, front clam, front fenders and side scoops are at least. Either that or someone went to the ridiculous expense and trouble to import these pieces) but that the rear clam is of Elise origin and there is also what looks to be a removable soft top. The wheels look to be chrome lotus pieces, and the aero skirt and front lip spoiler look to be direct from Kawahara Motorsport in Japan, which caters only to the Exige. Its been painted and carbon mirrors and a new spoiler have been added as well. It looks like a cool conversion to me, but I want to know more about this car. Anyone in Japan know about this one?

The problem here is it seems to be privately owned, and I found it from pictures on the Outer Plus site from a car show they either hosted or were a part of. It was uploaded pretty recently (June 5th 2007) but I've had no more luck getting anything more about it. This will probably be a shot in the dark, and I've completely revealed my nerd status by even posting this, yet I am still intrigued. Cars that have this much body treatment do not go unnoticed in the world for long, and stranger things have happened at elisetalk. Any help would be welcome.

I say it's an Elise with a body kit on it. The grills are all aftermarket pieces made for an Elise. AS a side note..all Exiges can be easily modded to fit a soft top

I believe the wheels are TMR FSL001s or FSL002s.

The car was probably modded by TMR in Japan.

That is an Elise alright.

What I want to know is why are there so many more aftermarket parts for the Elise in Japan than here???

Some of the stuff on this car and others in the background just aren't available here? Notice the wing on the purple Exige - it is bigger than the stock one.

Sector 111 has that wing. It's on Shinoo's car right now.

I assume your talking about the Exige and not the Elise

Thank you very much for all the feedback so far.

At first I suspected this to be just another Japanese Elise with a bodykit, possibly the Outer Plus one or maybe Denag's side skirts (that company only makes them for the exige though). One of the things I tried to find was the weld line on the hood. Its a trademark on the elise front clam but absent on the exige. In this instance its almost impossible to tell with the resolution and the angles. Next thing I noticed was the exige vent behind the front fender. This is easy to order and install and some elise owners have done it too. But the tell-tale giveaway that this was an exige (in the front at least) was the curved partition on the hood behind the hood vents. On the elise they did not seal it with the two screws behind the vent itself. On the exige they are present. This car definitely has them too.

I was double-verified of this when I tried to find the bodykit. KMS (Kawahara Motorsport) only has the front and side skirts for the exige, and by the look of it this kit is very similar. The front and sides of this car have to be from an exige.

This means this car replaced the exige rear clam with the elise one (or added the exige front and sides to an elise), something that has been done before by a couple different cars. Its an expensive job, but makes a car extra-ordinary because it doesnt quite look like an elise or an exige. This car has even gone beyond that level with the aero kit. The rear spoiler is unique, definitely something I havent come across yet, and I would love to know the details on the build, engine or what that small yellow/white logo is underneath the door sill. This is definitely a special car.

The Elise has been available in Japan for much longer than in the US so they have had longer to work on them.

Actually looks more like Work Meister S1 2piece wheels... notice the stepped lip.

I'm pretty sure UK (and likely Japanese) Elises do -- or at least did at one point -- use the three-screw method of attaching the access panels. Poking around the SELOC galleries finds some such cars. Remember that the car was reworked to prep it for the US market; even now I think the interior trim is still fairly different between the US and Europe.

Im confounded now... throw all logic out the window. Following up on TMR led me to this picture. Lotus did indeed use them on the elise in Japan.

As for the Meister wheels, they are definitly the ones. Big thanks to Gideon for that one

The things you learn in Japanese...

Update with better pictures. Found out that the event was one of Japans largest annual car meets, called E.M.W. (east meets west). It was put on by the Elise Owners Site in Japan (think Japanese elise talk?) and spanned two days (June 2nd and 3rd) in the Yatsugatake region. The car itself definitly has an exige front clam and an elise rear clam, with a KMS exige front spoiler and side skirts. The Meister S1 wheels were spot on. The white/yellow logo under the door sill is KMS's own logo. It was a fun distraction for today, now back to reality...

Someone posted a bunch of pics of the KMS Exige on ET, but I can't find them. I thought Shinoo posted them, but no luck.

Anyone remember this or am I imagining things.

Curious as to the specs on those wheels, seems to fit nicely under the fenders... I know Work wheels are custom/made-to-order, but perhaps the website where you found the car has some specs on the car and wheels?
