Hawaii licensing / sticker advice

Aloha,

I'll be shipping my Elise here the last week of December...so looking for some license/registration advice. Is it one stop shopping here for license and inspection, or are the separate locations to go to?

Also. I've noticed two alternate methods to avoid putting the inspection sticker on paint...plates that bolt under the body or a plate that goes on the license plate bracket bolt. Any guidance on where to find these plates, as they seem to only be seen on some "nicer" cars around town?

As I just arrived to Oahu a week ago, I've only seen one Elise so far--a titanium (?) one going west on the H-1. Glad to see they're rarely seen here too!

Thank you,
Dave

I found the Hawaii DMV site which answers license/registration questions. Any recommendation on where to go for the "inspection"?

Thank you,
Dave

The last plate I got for mine I got from Red Line. You should be able to find them in the phonebook. But I think you can get them at most automotive stores. As long as you have not made any modifications to your cars engine or exterior you should be able to pass inspection with no problems. If you have made modifications other than tint or interior mods such as stereo, you need recon to pass. That includes rims, exausts, intake, pretty much anything. As for places that just pass you if you do not have recon you just have to talk your way out of it or find a place to pay extra cash. They are very strict on recon here and I know that from my last car which had ALOT of extras. Infact one place I heard about the day prior to trying to get mine passed lost there permit to do the inspection the day I got there. I guess these guys get fined really badly if they get caught. Anyhow good luck on your inspection.

No mods here yet...will likely do a power upgrade once warranty expires in Apr 08. So, hopefully won't encounter any issues.

Thank you!
Dave
