After getting into and out of an Elise a lot, I can understand the sentiment. My biggest gripe about seating in the Miata (besides the fact that it was designed in a country where the average male is 5'9", tops) is that you sit on the car instead of in it. The NC (3rd generation) rectifies this somewhat. My race seat very much addressed this issue, but was kind of uncomfy on long trips partially due to the fact the seat had to be mounted off-center to the steering wheel due to the tranny tunnel (the stock seat is as well, but it's less obvious due to the soft side bolsters). It didn't help that I was basically sitting on a shell of carbon fibre--that cover was mostly for show!

You can see the difference it made below. The first pic is of me running autocrosses in a stock seat with foam removed from the bottom and seatback:

Last is a pic of me running an autocross in the race seat:

With no helmet:

Maybe one of these days. I'd wanted a Miata since I was 8 (when they came out) and didn't know of the Elise until I first played Gran Turismo in high school and college. After my one and only ride in one, it's definitely on my list!

It's my understanding that the driver side just physically has more space due to the adjustable seat. The passenger seat is fixed thereby cramming people into the space. It's not just the steering wheel...

Either way, they're both a fixed shell, right?

Yes I can--in about 5 words: Never ask for a nickname!

On one of my other forums, I once made the mistake of saying that I couldn't figure out what to use for a screen name. One of the ladies of the forum asked me what I would like. I replied "any name is cool, as long as it's not something like 'cupcake' or some such."

The name, unfortunately, stuck
