Club111 Car Control and Autocross Meet, San Diego May 26th and 27th

Club111 CLAM '07 (California Lotus Autocross and Meet) -SAN DIEGO- updated info

Schedule

Friday. Dinner. Plan subject to change, but we are looking at dinner in Old Town, San Diego at the Guadalajara restaurant
http://www.bazaardelmundo.com/guad2006.shtml
Parking there should be very easy and is just a couple miles from the hotel or Mission Valley/Qualcomm stadium area. Map to follow. Food is pretty good casual mex with margaritas and mariachis. I will need a head count for Friday night dinner. Plan on dinner starting at 7:00pm. We will be out in the courtyard area.

Saturday Autocross and Car Control Clinic
Chaired by Randy Chase
Arrive by 8:00am. If you are going to be later, please let me know. Everyone will have assigned work assignments and we will run cars from 9:00am until around 5:00pm. If you have to leave early, let me know. Lunch will be assorted Sub sandwiches and chips. Water will be supplied.

Saturday Night Dinner
Chaired by CALtd (Craig)
Dinner will be at the Southwest Yacht Club at 7:00pm. Parking is in a private lot with a guard. Just tell the guard you are with the Lotus club. Dinner is $30 a person. We will need a head count. Map later.

Sunday Breakfast
As of right now, breakfast will be at the Bay Cafe in Coronado Island. Map to be provided. Breakfast is at 8:00am sharp. We intend to be in the parking lot for the cruise at around 9:00am, with a start time of 9:30am.

Sunday Cruise. Palms to Pines run. A sampling of San Diego's back country roads. The cruise starts on Coronado Island, and runs south along the Silver Strand, a small strip of land connecting the Island to Imperial Beach. We will be driving by Hotel Del Coronado, the Amphib base, the naval radio station and where they are filming the new HBO series, John from Cincinnati. Then through Imperial Beach to I-5 south towards the border and Tijuana. East on 905. North on 805. Then we get off to some twisty roads along Lyons Valley. Eventually we will hook up through Guatay and Pine Valley, where the terrain will vary from desert to mountainous pines. Through the old gold mining town of Julian. Santa Ysabel. Highway 79. Palomar Mountain. Eventually working our way west to I-15. Our drive will end around I-15 and 76.

If you are heading north to I-5, I recommend using the Ortega pass.

I'm interested (though I'm driving a Mini now - hopefully I'll have a Lotus by then) Is it open or only lotus? Who is the sanctioning body of the event? Is there a URL for the event?

Any chance of finding somewhere to watch the Monaco GP over breakfast in San Diego?

It is a great restaurant for carnivores. I know we have several Vegetarians in our midst, so that would proabably would not be the best choice.

They probably do it for the elise to keep weight down.... Not a bad Idea!

When it gets closer and we have a real list of entrants, we will also poll everyone for dinner/breakfast/lodging/etc and see if we can't make a good choice (or in the case of lodging, suggestion).

Dinners for a large group are always interesting. Different eating requirements. A place that can seat 30-40 or more easily. Not too loud that you can't talk. Not too small that 40 people will overwhelm them and service will take 4 hours. And parking... we need to be able to park the cars in a safe and secure place. Not a place with valet only... or parallel parking only.

Mike, any idea what time the F1 race is going to air?

Randy,

I'm interested in both driving events. I'll be on extended travel for business through the end of March and most of April. I'll be off-line so remember me when you make the list.

Thanks,

Mike
