Club111 is proud to announce the organization of a fund raising event to benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp of Ashford Connecticut. On April 3rd, 2005, the Northeast Region of Club111 will host a photography session at The Blue Colony Diner on Church Hill Road in Newtown, Ct. starting at 11:00am. We are asking that members allow pictures to be taken of donating individuals in their cars. Donations of “Wish List” items for the camp will also be accepted by Club111 members at the event and are suggested but not mandatory for Club111 members. Wish List items range from balloons and school supplies to X Boxes and AV equipment. The idea is to give what you can. At 1:00pm the Club will depart Newtown and travel to Bridgewater Connecticut for a second session at the Bridgewater Fire Department on Route 133 (the location of the famous Bridgewater Fair). The second session is scheduled from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. All proceeds will benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Our financial goal is $2,000. This is equal to a summer scholarship for one individual to attend the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
We intend to start the day at around 9:30 with breakfast at the diner for Club111 members. The drive between Newtown and Bridgewater will be wonderful and very scenic. I’ll be posting a description later. There are also a variety of stores/ restaurants in Bridgewater at the end of the day for us to enjoy. This will be a great event to not only enjoy the company of the other members of the club, but also give something back to the community in a very tangible way. This outreach on our part has so touched The Hole in the Wall Gang Organization that we have been approached in becoming a national partner in their cause. The event will be covered by local news outlets and is a great opportunity for us to show the heart and commitment of the Lotus community. Background info on the charity we're supporting. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, founded by Paul Newman in 1988, is a nonprofit residential summer camp, an ingeniously designed and dazzlingly equipped Wild West hideout in northeastern Connecticut, where children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses do not have to sit on the sidelines. More than 1,000 children between the ages of seven and fifteen from across the country and abroad attend each year, free of charge. For a list of Wish List items to bring for donation to the camp, or for more information on The Hole in the Wall Gang Charity, see their web site at http://www.holeinthewallgang.org/ Finally, allow me to thank Heidi for organizing this event. Not to get too mushy but it really touched me to see her embrace and move forward with the work to bring this event together. Thank you again. Contact me with questions or to RSVP.

A slight change in our plans. In Bridgewater, we will now be hosted by The Village Store. The town is giving us access to the street and the town green across the street for the show. We have also been told that we may have some of the celebrities associated with The Hole in the Wall Gang attend and lend their support. Lotus Ltd.'s local chapters have also been invited and asked to participate.

Directions to My Place, Newtown CT
I was asked, so here it is:
I-84 to Exit 10. Eastbound drivers: Turn left at the light at the end of the ramp. Go up the hill, through 2 more lights. At the second light, turn left onto Queen Street. Eton Centers is on your left. Brooks Pharmacy is there. Westbound drivers: Turn right at the light, go up the hill, through 3 more lights. At the third light, turn left onto Queen Street... My Place is directly across the street from the entrance to Eton Centers. Newtown is a safe place to park.

Heidi and I talked this morning and we are on for tomorrow! Weather outlets are calling for fog in the am and possible showers but the call for storms has been lifted.
My cell is (267) 496-4551 if anyone needs to get me. I'll be leaving Pennsylvania around 6:30am to make it to Newtown for Breakfast. I don't know the area well so if you're looking for directions, call or write Heidi. Remember, there will be club announcements during breakfast. You can come for any part of the day if you can't be there for the whole day. Members, also remember to try and bring wish list items for the The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. The lists can be found on their web site. Robert

I was only able to attend the morning portion of the event in Newtown, but despite light rain, the event was already a success, having raised several hundred dollars in the morning alone... Hats off to Robert, Heidi, Scotty and everyone else who organized this charity event....I am sure they did just as well in Bridgewater...some pics from Newtown...

Too bad I couldn't make the event. There's nothing like seeing a bunch of different color Elises together!
Gotta say, I love the Ardent Red! Just confirms my decision. Now I know there's at least one Ardent Red in CT on the road (that I know of.) |

Ok, so the weather did NOT cooperate! A few brave souls stood in the rain and drizzle for hours...
We had 6 cars at each location. SY replace with Green in Bridgewater. An interesting day for all! Thanks so much to those who came despite the weather and stuck it out! Here's a link to some more photos. Didn't want to use up a lot of space here... http://www.homelink2000.com/new_page_6.htm Pictures posted in no particular order.

Hi Heidi...I was planning on making the trip down with my BRP, but as mother had it, she left me with 3 inches of water in my garage & basement, so I spent all weekend cleaning out all the water and wet boxes, so I ended up doing a major cleaning as I was bailing water!!
Maybe if you hold it again, when the weather is more pleasent, you might be able to get more cars down there?? Bruce |

I'd love to do it again, if everyone else is game. I'd say next time we concentrate on the Newtown area for donations; perhaps a drive first, then lunch and public? Considering the limited number of cars, and the weather, we did fairly well. I'll let Wallaby fill in the details.

Very nice set of photos. The weather may not have been great for the cause, but by contrast it makes the Elise palette look pretty sharp! And not one front plate, despite all the ingenious solutions -- and not one citation despite the inspection? For that the event was charmed.
And, it could have been worse: snow accumulations here today, still snowing, and supposed to snow all day tomorrow. It would have been impossible to get back on these roads without snows, but I wish more of us could have participated. Will winter never end? ![]()

Yes, your eyes don't decieve you. To the horror of those watching, the former rockette made the pose. You'll also see the follow up picture of the inspection that Heidi ingeniously called "rockette damage". Who would have imagined another spot for starshield there. All in all, the afternoon was great even though we all hoped for better weather. Thanks everyone for a warm welcome and fun time.
