07 here, and I charge through it, without the need for the key. So...always hot.

Maybe it's different on the '07? I too used to think mine switched off when the ignition was off, but was wrong. On the '05 and '06 Lotus it is definitely "always on".
Here is a copy from a page in our manual:

Does this socket work on any other 07 Elise?

RoadDad above (post 21) says his works. That is why in the next post I asked if it might be a Canadian vehicle requirement? Doesn't Canada require a clutch/ignition interlock? Meaning that you can't start your car unless you have the clutch pedal pushed in (ours in the US do not have this)?

Starting the car requires the clutch pedal being pressed down, how does that effect the socket?

It means the electrical system has been modified (or is different) to meet Canadian requirements, and therefore why your cigarette lighter outlet probably is not hot when the key is out of the ignition.

It was merely an example of a difference between a Canadian Elise and a US Elise (on a US Lotus, you do not have to press the clutch to start the car). I was suggesting that since there is this difference, there may be others... like maybe whether or not the socket is switched with the ignition.

Have been told by some one in the know that all Canadian cars have the socket disabled when the key is out.

so why not use the ring terminal harness on the battery?
Batterytender.com - Home of All Your Charging Needs Accessories

and just run the wire from the Battery tender through the passenger side intake and into the trunk? This is what I do and works great.

One can also add the 25 foot extension between the tender and the ring terminal harness, should be plenty of wire to get you from the device to the battery.

+1

The waterproof one is rated 800 mA and works well in dusty / non-climate controlled situations like my barn where condensation is an issue.

For the record, the wiring for the clutch switch is the same in Canadian and US cars. They just don't install the switch in the US cars. You can disable the switch in the Canadian cars by simply unplugging it.

Finally got my 2 Battery Minder Plus, they look great and seem to do the job, however. I have one of them on my trailer battery out and in my workshop and the other still in the Elise. Both have the green light flashing that indicates desulphating but they both flash at a different rate. Should I be concerned?

Thanks

I wouldn't be concerned. I imagine it's just manufacturing variance in parts that make the diode flash...

I think I'm going to get the Battery Minder now. I have 2 tenders but 4 batteries to keep charged.

I already have the Battery Tender plus and the Battery Tender Jr.

Looks like the Battery Minder uses the same plug type (1 male 1 female) as the Battery Tender. Great, all of these wires are interchangeable.

I just hooked up my Battery Tender Jr yesterday, and as of today it still has the red light on indicating it's still charging the battery. This seems like too long, i mean it's been probably 24 hours now since I hooked it up. I will say, however, that prior to hooking it up, I found the car wouldn't start. I jumped it with my other car, and took it for a short drive. When I came back, I hooked it up to the tender.

So, in short, the red light has been on (steady, not flashing) for about 24 hours. I have the black alligator clip connected to a little protrusion on the engine block, since the directions don't say to hook it up to the negative terminal. Any suggestions as to why the red light has been on for so long?

You cannot charge a dead battery with this product.
