Braille B2015 mounting options?

Greetings all,

I have a Braille B2015 that I'd like to mount in my Elise. I don't really need the S111 Extender option. Is there anything else readily available? I really like the RLS bracket for the Odyssey PC680, but it doesn't fit the Braille B2015.

Thanks,

Frank,

Here's how I mounted my B2015. I used the battery bracket from Sector111 as shown.

I stuck black foam weatherstripping on the inside of the bracket to avoid having the aluminum contact the battery case (and potentially rub). I also put a 1cm thick pad of dense black packing foam between the battery and firewall. I think if you didn't pad it, it might move around. As it is now, it's quite snug.

To get the height just right and to allow clearance for the top padding, there's a washer between the trunk and the S111 bracket. You can just see it in the photo under the bracket.

Regards,
Jared

That would be... (in the words of Chris Farley)... AWESOME!

It is marginally lighter (0.4 lbs per the table here Battery Choices & Information), but most importantly it purportedly has much higher specs for amp hours, cranking amps, etc.

More info on the battery:
Braille Battery USA - B2015

I was going to purchase one of their mounts and try and mod it to work like one of yours, but their mounting tabs are on the sides of the battery...
Braille Battery USA - B2015 / B2015C Aluminum Mount Kit

Anyway, if you were to offer a mount (please!) I would happily be the first in line.

Thanks,

My older, yet still microprocessor controlled, 20/15/10/2 amp Sears battery charger (http://manuals.batterychargers.com/m...-00-000600.pdf) has a setting for 'regular' batteries and well as 'gel cell.' I know the Braille is an AGM type, so which setting should I use?

Also, can I use my 500mA Porsche battery maintainer on it if it says 'Charge only Pb type batteries' as per the following pic?

Thanks!

Frank,
Different battery types have different charging voltages to ensure a complete charge.
Wet Cell 14.75V
AGM 14.65V
GEL 14.55V
If you don't have an AGM charger I would charge at the Wet cell rate.

Pb refers to a lead based battery which applies to all those above.

Ok y'all, NCI is taking a look at a battery bracket for the B2015.

Next step is for me to figure out a way to use the side 'post' mount as opposed to the top 'post' option (as seen in post #4 of this thread). I want the battery cables to lay flat against the front side of the battery (i.e. the top side when the battery is mounted in the Elise 'lying down').

The problem is that there is a gap between the face of the side terminal and the body of the battery of 0.125". How do I fill this gap? Copper spacer? Copper washer (although I'd like to go with a spacer to get the maximum contact area between the battery cable lug and the battery terminal).

You can see what I mean by top post and side post (the threaded sections of the terminals that accept bolts) in the first pic and you can see the gap in the second pic. The battery cable would need to sit where the ruler is and I need to fill the gap under the ruler in the pic.

im thinking a set of the post adapters would raise the cable enough to clear the side of the battery.

Well, yeah, except I don't think the adapter would fit without hitting the black cap portion before you could tighen it all the way down (i.e. the radius of the post adapter is larger than the distance from the center of the M6 threads to the black cap), not to mention, do they make post adapters in M6 threads (I forget the pitch off the top of my head) and even if they did (and they fit) that means I'd have to bolt the post clamps back on to the ends of my battery cables. I'd rather forego the expense, etc of adapters and post clamps. Not to mention all that added weight!
