CDL Failure Override

If the car is locked with the alarm remote and the Central Door Locking (CDL) Module fails we are locked out of the car. This has happened to some members here, in fact, as recently as last weekend. I am working on an inexpensive method to unlock the doors should this happen, and am endeavoring to gauge interest.
Cheers,
Michael

My AIDS-Infested-cum-bubble-queef alarm is turned off (until it decides to rear its ugly head again) and I use the actual locks on the doors.

Somehow, I get the feeling that if the Evil One decides it doesn't want you to start the car, it won't let you - armed or not, on or off.

Is there a way to completely disable the bastardized-stranding-pig-puking-vominous-miserable-sh*tbox of an alarm? *OR* Is there another system out there that allows for the alarm to truly be turned off, fairly plug-n-play, no fuss, no muss?

Would replacing the CDL module ahead of time prevent such a disaster? I'm really sick of worrying about what will happen if my battery dies and the bastard-child-of-an-anal-torture-f*ck alarm decides to strand me again.

That alarm is EVIL!

If you install my Touch Key Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL override it protects against a bad or lost remote or not remembering the PIN.Alarm/Immobilizer/CDL Emergency Overide
If you install my latest CDL override it protects against an inoperative CDL module.
Cobra are introducing a more advanced alarm that with the use of an adapter harness will be interchangeable.

Viper - When is the new alarm & adapter coming? Any idea on pricing for said unit? Will this require any other new parts? Does the unit come with FOBs? Will it have a range of more than 1 foot, stock?

Regarding the CDL Unit... Is there a more reliable unit that it could be replaced with? Where the hell is the thing?

I am told the new system will be available in a few months and it should not require any new parts. Pricing is undetermined at this time but expect it to be a few hundred dollars. The only reason the range is limited on our system is because Lotus wound the antenna into the wiring harness. Release it as I and many others have done and get up to 80' range. The CDL module appears to be generally reliable, I have only heard of a few that have gone bad. Again, the problem has been Lotus design, not Cobra, because the key will not unlock the doors if they was locked with the remote.

Would replacing the alarm head unit require a new sensor, or immobilizer?

Do you HAVE TO use the immobilizer?

Let's say I am a trusting individual and just want the siren to go off and the lights - but no matter what, the car would always have the ability to start... how would I configure that? Will that be an option on the new alarm?

It is my understanding that the entire dash must come out in order to remove/replace the alarm head unit... Is there anything else that must be done, like splicing wires, or soldering?

I'm sure that Cobra is a fine company, but that alarm in my Lotus is EVIL!

Please be certain to contact me when the new alarm becomes available. Oh, and I did release the antenna wire - and I still have a foot or so of range. Must be my incompetence in play here.

TheViper - you are a savior of those driving Lotus in hot climates and those with temperamental, bastardized, stranding, crack-smoking, butt-slamming alarm systems. I once again pay homage to you for your incredible Electronics talent and mad skills of rationality!

And now a word from the great book of Lotus...

"Yay, though I walk to my car and can not unlock the doors
Until a foot away...
I shall hopeth not my CDL Unit, from outward, water poured,
Or results will be totally gay...

And although Lotus hath installed double door locks
For added indigestion
May we fear not being lockedeth out like stranded cocks
Which causes temper regression

Though I drive a Lotus Elise with a crappy alarm, door lock, and key
I will fear not, for The Viper is with me."

Amen

I'd be interested in a CDL override.

After being locked out of my car last week I am the poster child of why this over ride is a good idea!

See, TheViper, I am not the only one who believes in the Evil One's powers.

Michael should be preparing to ship on the 3rd batch now. There are 2 threads at least detailing price and specs.

Noel,
This is a different item, it overrides the CDL module should it fail completely and unlocks the doors.
As you know the Touch Key works if the remote is lost or inoperative and turns off the alarm, immobilizer and unlocks the doors.
