Center Brake Light Blinker>>>easy upgrade

Thought I share this... anything to make the Elise more visible to the unobservant, cell phone talking, make-up putting on, eating and drinking, watching kids and 'oh it such a small car I didn't see it' crowd works for me. Installed a center light blinker module and works great...really gets peoples attention. Product from>>>
Blinker Module

Install very easy and will take you about 1 hour...not rushing anything. Here are a few install pics>>>

Remove entire center brake light unit... two 8mm bolts and unplug

Module comes with everything you need, but instead of using the supplied wire nuts I use crimp wire connectors.

Here is the module wired up

Here is the final install...I placed a piece of non-absorbent styrofoam around module to hold in place...probably could leave this off but I am always looking to improve install. Module comes with wire tie wraps to bundle wires and could use to hold module too.

Side view of installed module

That's it...just plug back in and reattach using the (2) 8mm bolts.

When you press brake pedal the center brake light blinks 3 times then stays on full...nice feature is the blinking will only occur after 10 seconds of not applying brakes so if you are in stop and go traffic the center light won't keep doing the blinking unless there is a 10 sec lapse from last brake application.

Cheap insurance to me

I was thinking about this as i have been rear ended 2 tines in northern va traffic (in other cars) my buddy added "flickering" brake lights on his motorcycle so as to be better seen when stopping, and it does draw your attention!

Judging by that last photo, you may spend as much money at Griot's Garage as I do.

Cool! I've had something similar (called "Back-Off") on an extra brake light built into the license plate frame of my HD Road King for awhile.

I also like the DRL's... seems like an easy way to add some visibility to my Storm Titanium car here in the land of cataracts.

Is the device documented as legal for road use? I think it would help but could imagine that if you were rear ended, the other driver might take the position that you had brake lights that were not functioning according to the law or to factory specs. Still, it seems like they'd tend to help.

When I bought my 99 TJ, the dealer ship was selling the 3rd brake light blinker as a saftey add on. I didn't want to pay, and they gave it too me for free. I liked it, but it burned out my light bulb a couple of times. I don't think it will cause any issues. The one I had blinked for about 5 seconds, and then the light went full on.

I just ordered one - and I don't even have the car yet (47 hours to go!)

I do believe the 3rd brake light is composed of an array of LEDs, so "having the light burn out" is unlikely to happen.

I know MB is going to make the blinking third brake light standard on their cars for MY06... and have heard several other Euro manufacturers following suit... so to me it would have to be DOT compliant.

I have one on my MINI and ironically, I have just ordered one yesterday! Love it and it truly is a easy and worth while install!
