Deactivate X Band?

I know it's outdated technology in terms of radar speed gauging, and it's only still used in NJ and other various parts of states (I googled for awhile and can't find these specific areas)...but is it a wise idea to turn off the X band detecting capabilities entirely?

Good question. I'd like to turn of X band on my V1 to reduce false alarming. Does anyone know if x band is used in other states besides NJ?

I've never been pulled over with my radar detecting X band in TX for the past 5 years (ever since I got a radar detector). Automatic doors and bank security systems .

Pennsylvania still uses X band. Unfortunately, PA has equipped many of it's road signs with an X band transmitter to confuse those of us with detectors. Still, being able to detect X band is critical in PA.

I would only recommend deactivating x band when in your home area, as that's the only one you know well enough to know whether or not x band is used. When traveling, it's best to have all the protection you can get.

I've witnessed several police cars using x band in eastern Oregon recently, so it's still out there.

I found X band to be quite common in small towns on the backroads. I would only turn it off around a larger town with known X band usage.

Thx for the info. K band is the one that really bothers me since in LA it is used for markets and goes off way too much. That will be an impovement for sure. How do you actually update the software w/out having to send it in the the manu?

CodeRed, you can also adjust the sensitivity of the V1 to help filter out much of the unwanted background radiation; press and hold the knob to switch between 'A' (all signals), 'l' (a little bit of filtering logic), and 'L' (a lot of filtering logic). Now that I think of it, I THINK that with the 'L' setting, x band signals will trigger visual indicators only, no audio (but read the manual to be sure, it's been a while since I've done so so I could be wrong).

No X band used by the law in Cali -- turned it off long ago. K band will be going next.
