Flashing red light on tachometer after start-up

Hi

Just bought a 2005 Elise. Occasionally, after disarming the alarm/immobiliser with the fob, I turn the ignition key only to find that the engine does not even turn over. The red light on the tachometer is not flashing at this point. A few days ago this problem occurred, and after repeatedly turning the key the car started. The problem is intermittent. Any thoughts?

Also, I just started the car (it started on the first attempt), and let it warm up before pulling away. For some reason, the red light flashed intermittently for the first minute or so that the engine was running (before pulling away, so engine was idling). Any thoughts?

IIRC, might be a loose battery connection. There are several threads about the issue.

Does not sound like an immobilizer issue. As Chris said it sounds more like a bad battery connection. Check both the main battery connection and the adapter connection in the cable a few inches away.
Cheers,
Michael

How many times does it blink? There is something in the manual about the light blinking different numbers of times if an alarm went off, the battery was disconnected, the front panel was removed, etc.

Compare the number of blinks to what the manual says to find out what the problem is.
