HELP my Valentine1 is freaking out!!

I've had the V1 for a year now with no problems in my truck.

I recently put it in my lotus with the heads up display. The main unit is mounted on a bracket above the interior light (alarm switch) between seats, and the display is on the steering wheel.

Ever since its been in the Lotus, it feaks out alarming over and over and over and over like every 10 or 20 seconds alerting LASER - full signal. It does it day or night, country or city, all the time when its on laser mode, but not in other modes.. I want it to be in "L" mode all the time because the book says thats the best mode to leave it in.

any ideas anyone???

What kind of stereo do you have? Some of the LEDs can trigger the detector. Also, make sure you have a good power connection.

Try moving it around the car while it's on to see if the alarm turns off when positioned differently. I've had similiar problems with my V1, they are sensitive to other devices. Recently sent mine in for repair because it started alarming when passing vehicles.

I've also head of similar "falses" when there is a poor electrical connection. Basically, the radar keeps resetting and what you get appears to be a "false" laser (or radar) detection.

The display on my blaupunkt stereo causes the same behavior with my V1, though only in low light conditions. My solution is to unplug the power from the V1, then plug it back in (after making sure the stereo is turned on). When the V1 powers up, it appears to take a baseline reading of the IR light, then looks for changes to that (spikes, I presume, which a flashing stereo display might cause).

With the V1 powered off of the 12v between the seats, hitting the horn is enough to cause the voltage drop and laser alert.

Given where it's located, are you certain that the third brake light nearby isn't setting it off?

FWIW, L is "Advanced Logic" mode, not laser. It seems to apply to x-band filtering only.

Also this might help:

Quote:
Laser False Alarms
1. Red neon, from stores and occasionally from brake lights of other cars (example: Chevy TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Olds Bravada and Buick Rainier), can imitate the characteristics of speed laser.
Solution: Move away from source.

2.The electrical systems of some cars generate electromagnetic interferences, triggering laser alerts. How to test: Try V1 in a different car.
Possible solution: Try relocating detector within the interfering car; also, your dealer may have a factory fix.

3. Adaptive cruise control systems using laser may cause laser alerts.
Solution: Switch to normal cruise control when possible.
