HELP needed with Elise alarm issue!

Hi all, I have an issue on my new Elise that happens all the time. The alarm system seems to work ok, except that a couple of minutes after I start the car and am driving, the security tell tale light starts blinking again. If I press the small button the key fob, the light stops blinking, but then returns again a few minutes later.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know what the problem was?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Scott

Thanks for the reply peck555, but my interior light is already pointing down, in the position that makes the light come on from opening the door etc...

Any other ideas? This is really driving me crazy!

There are three positions, are you positive that it is in the furthest down position?

Hi JWA, yes I am positive, it is definitely in the downward most position.

Hey, I just went down to the car, and opened the drivers door to let the interior light on, (which is in the down position) and noticed that if you lightly touch the interior light it flickers, maybe switching itself on and off.

I wonder if the interior light is faulty and causing the interior light/alarm issue to happen anyway. I'll have the service dept take a look at that and I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks again, for the replies.

Oh and one other thing, this is not an issue of the alarm going off on it's own, (some people had posted to be the symptom of the interior light being in the wrong position), this is only an issue of the light "blinking" when driving. The alarms' sounding is working as it should.

While I have this flickering interior light being looked at, please offer any other ideas, just in case this flickery light is not the cause.

Thanks,
Scott

It's not normal. That light should only be blinking when the car is NOT running. When the car IS running, it is supposed to function as the shift indicator/ rev limit light.
I would take it back to the dealer and have them make it go away, one way or another.

Hi Tyger, yeah that's what I thought, it doesn't seem right.

I just picked the car back up from the shop today to be looked at, and they told me it was ok now, but I drove off and alas it started blinking again, (liars!).

Unfortunately I picked the car up right as they were closing, so I'll give them another call tomorrow and give 'em hell!

Many people have had the flickering light problem. Is it flickering (random duration and frequency) or blinking (even regular, duration and frequency). Blinking, I've not heard of. Flickering has often been linked to a bad battery connection. Check both the connection at the posts and at the cable adapter connections. Loose connections at the battery has also resulted in batteries going flat, presumably from lack of adequate charging due to the loose connections.

Just a thought. If you can live without the automatic immobiliser (still works when the alarm is activated) you might try programming it to not automatically arm and see if that stops your light from blinking when driving. That'd be curing the disease by getting rid of all the symptoms.

Chris has probably identified the problem. The red dash light has multiple functions, and it flickering has often been a problem. Check the battery connections - make sure the posts are clamped tight, and the nuts that clamp the cables to the posts are tight (a total of four connections on/next to the battery).

Hi all, it's not a random flicker, it is exactly the same sequenced "blinking" as the "alarm activated" blink while driving. I found another fault this morning, now when I pull the key out of the ignition, it thinks it's still inserted and leaves the radio on, emits the buzzer when opening the door and wont allow me to activate the steering lock unless I wiggle the key in and out a few times.

I spoke to the service guy this morning, we are both in agreement in that we think there is something wrong with the ignition sensing system. This is causing the alarm to think that the car hasn't been started and is not running when it actually is, thus bringing on the alarm again. It is doing the same thing as if you had deactivated your alarm, opened the door and closed the door and then not started the car for two minutes, the light starts flashing again. Also the fact that it is now not realising that the key has been pulled out made us think that both these problems are to do with the sensing of the ignition/key state.

I am bringing the car in again on Monday morning, I'll let you know what happens.

Hahaha!... I think you could be onto something there Miguel. I dropped the car off this morning to the service dept and I asked them to look for Gremlins in there, just in case that's what's going on, they said they'll let me know... lol!
