so, the "surgery" doesn't need any wire "prosthesis" to add
only take out the default antenna, extend it better inside panel and point it better and voilą.
is it right ?
i have "Touring Pack" and i think to have good understanding reading previous posts it's more difficult and maybe i will have blooding fingers

Yes. Just pulling the antenna wire loose from the rest of the wiring harness will greatly increase the range. Mine went from half a meter from the door to a range of 7 meters or so. I just separated the wire from the rest and pointed it straight up in the cubby hole.

Adding a length of wire to the end of the existing antenna wire seems to add more range to the remote. Running that wire up through the openings and near the windshield (less shielded from the car's metal) gives even greater range to the remote.

I happy with mine - with no extra wire added.

I have the base model and I still cut my knuckle. The aluminum of the frame crosspiece is very sharp. Maybe latex gloves would help.

Talking

Finally did the mod and it works like a charm.
15min job. I get 60 ft range now. I added about 2 ft of wire and slid if down the dash in front of the air bags as i did with the RCA Cables for my stereo upgrade.
Thanks for the posts everyone.

I tried this last night. I pulled a wire out thinking it was the antenna, but it was the radio's antenna. Anyway. I had to pull the long ass foam piece which I kind of regret now. Howcome it's in there? THat fat tube is for the coolant, correct? I figure if it pops, it will soak the coolant. In fact I don't remember it on the driver's side when I disabled the DRL. Also I found the alarm box with wires coming out of it and the entire thing wrapped in a bag. However, I didn't find the white molex(?) plug to trace the antenna wire. Although I did see it in the bundle.

Has anyone done this on a 2007 car? I think it might be wired differently.

Thanks.

That foam piece is part of the Touring Pack "sound-deadening".

Non-Touring Pack cars do not have the foam block. I can't imagine that it does much good anyway.

For those who don't know about the Uni-Key, you take apart your key and your alarm FOB, and assemble them into the Uni-Key so that you have a cool looking key that has the alarm remote on the top of it. Assembly is not hard to do at all, and takes just a few minutes. Well worth the $48. It's the 6th product down on this page: http://www.blackwatchracing.com/shop...cts.asp?page=1
Oooo... and they have a cup holder!!
That could eliminate one of my only two complaints about the car!

I have the cup holder and it broke. Seems I accelarated a bit too hard and it flew apart. Easily repairable with a little glue.

I just extended the wire. Huge improvement - really well worth the cuts on the hands from getting the wire out.

Highly recommended.

Easiest mod Ive ever done. I didn't bother extending the wire, just freed it from the wire harness, and left it dangling towards the rear of the car. I can now get 30-40 feet.

First time I've ever seen the rear lights flash with the alarm. :-P

Before this mod, I had to be within 2 feet of driver side window

I consider it a moderate security measure. If my keys are stolen, they'll have to still get pretty close to the car to find out which one it is. But, it still has enough range for me to easily press it, and rearrange what I may be holding before I get to the car. (Or not have to wait until I'm ready to open the door to unlock it. )

i reserved this modification when i would exchanged other parts in carbons, so this was the moment.
i open the part in question but unfortunetely it seams the alarm board is not in that position.
i read in past all about this thread, ready to actuat the modification but now i admit the alarm is not there.
to consider in the same place where you have the place to put objects i have the frontal radio speakers, but behind it there is nothing, only sponge and sponge.
behind sponge nothing, only a little cable but surely not a cable with a lot of little and colored little cables inside.
and now ??? i would like to wait for some of your answer before to close again all the components.

Use gloves... I just did this on mine, thought everything was fine (wasn't yanking on anything or rubbing on anything, no pain, etc)... until I pulled out my hand. Dots of blood appeared everywhere, and within minutes, about 8 slices opened up across my hand.

THEN it started hurting. So the GOOD news is the aluminum edges are razor sharp in there, so you won't feel a thing... the BAD news is the aluminum edges in there are razor sharp so you won't feel a thing (until it's too late).
