Irritating Continuous Drone

Maybe some of you can help me understand a strange continous buzz or beep.

On a few occasions, after parking and turning off the engine, I've sat in my car for a few minutes listening to the radio. I get out, arm the alarm, but about 30 seconds later, the buzz starts. It's not the wailing siren, but a continuing drone. What's causing it? How can I stop it?

TIA

Sounds like you have the door ajar indicator going off.

Maybe that's the indicator, but when this has happened, the door has not been ajar.

This buzz is to alert you that one of the alarm sensors is already tripped when you turn the alarm on. If you do nothing, the alarm will still arm, but it will leave that sensor out of the circuit.
You might try checking to make sure the interior light is in the down position. On some cars this seems to be tangled up with the door sensing system. Or the trunk could be ajar. Or you might just have a bad sensor switch somewhere.

Check beneath the front wings that cover the master cylinder and fuse block. I had one of the rubber plastic covers that cover the sensor get loose at the base and this prevented the sensor from being pushed in far enough. Popped it back on and its been fine since.

Ah, no it's not. I went through it five times trying to track it down. Not everything is RTFM.

It seems weird, but this worked. Thanks.

Glad to be of help. BTW, both the buzz and the light/alarm connection are indeed mentioned in the manual.

Well, thanks again. I see that on p 41 the connection is mentioned, but that's all. It it took extrapolation on your part to make the connection to what was happening to me. Otherwise, what I described isn't in the manual.

Ah, yes it is. (At least it's in mine..) It's the alarm telling you all is not right. In my case it was because I had the interior light in the "off" position, which would make the alarm not sound if someone opened a door. Probably the most common cause of the dreaded "Post Arming Whine".

RTFM more carefully...

Cheers-

Johnny
