Key with Lotus Badge Mod

I recently brought a BWR racing Uni-key. The key seems to be alittle bit too plain. I have a Lotus pin tie-tac badge sitting on my desk for over a year. And my thought is why not give a trial to put it on the key. Here is my mod. I hope the instruction is not too hard to follow. Please do not hesitate to provide comments.

Parts required (Picture 1):
  • A BWR racing Uni-key (Any key with "thichness over 0.25 in and 1.5 x 1.5 in surface area" may work. It has to come with a cover on the other side. BWR key = $48.00 + shiping cost, it does not include the remote PCB)
  • A Lotus pin tie-tac badge ($4.95 + $2.50 shipping at Ebay)
  • Loctite Stik & Seal Ultra Adhensive
  • A drill
  • A knife
  • A Plier

Instruction (30 minutes work + 24 hours wait):
  • To scratch out the "BLACKWATCH" word and to smooth the surface with knife (Picture 2).
  • Surface work is completed (Picture 3).
  • To drill a 0.19 in diameter hole at the center (Picture 4). Letter "B" and letter "H" can be used as an alignment.
  • To remove pin from the badge with a plier (Picture 5).
  • To apply adhensive on the badge and place it on the key. To apply a tape (any) to cover the hole inside the key. To secure the badge on the key with binder clips (Picture 6). Let it sit for 24 hours. Do not worry about the squeeze out material. It can be cleaned up by carefully cutting away using sharp-edged tool - the knife.
  • Here is completed mod (Picture 7 & 8).

P/S: Not sure if anyone has the same problem. I use two molding tape (with foam) on the carbon fibre plate to help better feel on pushing the buttons (Picture 9)

Like it.

Beats the heck out of my 05 key with dangly attachment. (put my new rubber strap on though today bought from "TheViper" here to again make my key ring one piece without separate alarm fob in my pocket)

Been thinking of doing that except with the new logo:

Lapel Pin - Style 2 LOTPR00452

One of these days...

Not sure about the new logo. But, the old logo is pretty good in anti-scratch.

I like the key mod.

foam pieces are a better idea than what I did. I took a blade an cut away the plastic frame on the inside so the buttons could be more easily pressed. So yeah, I had that problem also.
