No alarm, immobilizer or locks but car starts...

Hey everybody,

I have the weirdest thing at the moment. I was out to dinner with my wife and when we got out of the car at the restaurant I found that the fob would not lock the doors. Interesting...

I waited by the car for about a minute and a half, but no immobilizer light came on either....

So with the roof off, I locked the doors from the console and went inside to have dinner anyway pretty certain that I would be getting friendly with a tow truck driver later. After dinner, we walked back outside and again the fob would not work. I reached inside, unlocked the doors, got in and fired the car up.

I have driven the car almost daily for over three years and never had any issues like this. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Jim

Solved, kinda

Well, F11 and R2 FTW!!

How can you blow two fuses at the same time, while driving down the road with all the electronics off? Ah... Norfolk.

Now I get five flashes after I lock the car, four flashes when I unlock it and the siren doesn't go off when I trip the alarm by opening the engine cover after the alarm is armed.

Oh well. One disaster at a time. At least there is a group drive tomorrow.

Jim

4 flashes indicates that the ignition has been turned on while the alarm his armed.
5 flashes indicate that the voltage drop sensing has been triggered (door opened, etc.)
I suspect the alarm was on when you started the car, but he immobilizer was off (yes this is possible, maybe because the R2 fuse had blown).
There may be short in the siren wiring, have you done any work on the car recently?
Once all the fuses have been replaced, disarm the alarm and see what happens.
Michael

Well at least I now have an idea of how to put an engine in one....

Anyway, it looks like the immobilizer is working. I replaced the fuses, disarmed the alarm and waited a few minutes. The telltale was flashing and the car would not start. I pushed the button, got the same flashing lights and car started. Still no siren.

Jim, Are you sure you are not getting 7 or 8 flashes of the LED because that would indicate loss of communication with the Siren. I am thinking that the siren is unplugged.

Hi Michael,

No, it's defiantly five flashes when I lock the car and four when I unlock it. Since the manual says something about voltage drop sensor for five flashes I wonder if the battery is causing the issue. Even so, I am still left wondering why I get the four flashes. I keep the car in my garage so it's not like anybody is screwing around with it.

I may have to cave in and take the car back to the dealer.

that alarm is EVIL

I suggest you go to the dealer sooner than later because it has the power to strand even the nicest of folks.
