Power outlet too large... Fixes?

Sorry, but search fails me. The diameter of the 12V. power outlet is too large to hold my GPS plug. I'm sure someone has fixed this but I can't find the thread. Help?

Thanks, Todd

Another option available from Radio Shack is a 2 into 1 adapter that does fit snugly into the Lotus outlet and standard accessory plugs remain tight in. This does not require removal of the original outlet and lets yu use a GPS and radar detector at the same time. Sorry I don't have a picture, if you happen to make it to the rally, I'll show it to you....Dave

The UK power socket has a slightly larger hole for the plugs which allows the US plugs to wiggle and not fit snugly.

The generic US power outlet replacement from RS will fit directly into the existing hole once you remove the existing socket.

You can also get a sleeve adapter that fits and makes the larger UK power outlet more snug like the US one without removing anything.

I did the RS mod, works great. If your "cupholder" is wrapped in leather you will have to remove the cap on the new one so it snaps in place properly.

Back when I connected my V1 via the power outlet, I found that I could modify the V1's plug to fit better - I unhooked one end of one of the metal contacts, so the end was resting outside the main connector body rather than tucked inside, and this increased the overall diameter enough for a snug fit.

Like mentioned above, pick up one of these at Radio Shack and replace the console socket...takes just a few minutes. I installed another in the blank spot on the light panel that was just begging for one.

Just FYI, instructions are here: How to replace your 12v DC outlet for a better one for the mod to the US spec 12V outlet.

Anyone have pictures of the wires you tapped into for this mod? My multimeter is busted & I don't feel like driving back into town to buy one. Thanks.

Edit: I'm referring to those of you that added a 2nd outlet, not swapped out the original.

Here it is, a tap off of the C2 fuse which is an ignition switched circuit.
