Unhappy Radiator Fans Not Coming On?

Apologies if this has been covered, I couldn't find any posts on the topic.

I have an 05 Elise and during a rare warm and sunny day in Seattle last week, I noticed I was running a bit hot (200-208F). It wasn't hot enough for major concern but I did turn off the A.C. What I did noticed was the lack of radiator fan noise - sure enough the buggers were NOT coming on. They are noticably loud so that lack of sound indicated to me an issue as I've had them coming on at lower coolant temps previously.

- Has anyone had trouble with this?

- What fuse box location houses the fuses for the radiator fans?

- Any other words of wisdom to consider before either wrenching on this or taking it into the dealer for service?

Many thanks in advance. I've used many of your "How To" posts already (Speaker and Larnari Exhaust Installations).

Cheers,

-Dave

AC can help cool the car down.

Check to make sure the connectors are plugged into the fan control box. It lives on top of the front passenger wheel liner. The connectors can easily come undone.

I don't have the owners manual in front of me at the time, but IIRC, the fans don't come on until the temperature reaches 208. At that point they come on half-speed. At 217 they come on full speed. Or, if you turn on the AC, I believe they come on full-speed.

first chance to experience higher temps this AM. mostly stop and go driving <5MPH for about 30 minutes. gauge kept creeping up to 207/208 then dropping. i must admit that the heat plumes coming from the front were a bit scary.

should i be worried? air temp was 50 degrees +/-

I don't think it is anything to worry about, but I am surprised that at 50 degrees it got that warm. Stop and go for an extended period can certainly make the temps climb. Did the fans come on?

couldn't hear the fans, but i was in the middle lane surrounded by much larger vehicles. i'm assuming (hoping) that the plumes were the fans coming on.

i've driven the car relatively hard in 30 degree warmer weather and not seen temps rise above 200. i'm going to keep my eye on the gauge.
