Another quick question..

My remote battery is going low, takes many clicks right up on the front glass to work. Got the car used and no pin, but just to swap out the battery will I need to reprogram or need the pin or is it a simple quick battery swap out?

Usually it is possible to do a quick battery swap and retain the sync., however, with a weak battery, this may not be possible and the sync. could be lost. Hopefully you have another remote that is still working if that is the case for you. You really need to call your Lotus dealer and get your alarm code. Without the code, you are completely screwed if/when the alarm or fobs act up.

If you free the Cobra antenna (inside the right access panel), you'll find your fob will work from much further away. Usually it's mistakenly bundled up with all the actual wiring to the Cobra unit, which means it cannot work as it should.
I used to have to stand right next to the car to get it to work; now it works from a good 25 feet away.

PS I can't believe former owners aren't giving buyers their PINs! That said, I believe you can get the PIN from Lotus if you can prove you own the particular VIN.

You don't need the PIN to re-sync (since it is the alarm module that remembers the fob not the other way around!).

And if you don't have the PIN you really should get it before you need it!!

+1 Anyone who does not know their PIN, get it now, before you have a need for it

Is the pin anywhere on the vehicle?

A friend lent me his car after being told that the alarm had been totally disabled. It wasn't. After the battery was disconnected twice, the alarm energized and disabled the car, causing a long tow back to my house.

The owner tells me that the ECU has been swapped out and that perhaps the number is on the old ECU or in the paperwork he will dig through.

Any help would be appreciated.

The PIN is not anywhere on the car and is only on a small card from Cobra that came with the paperwork and owner's manual for the car. The PIN is not stored in the ECU either but rather in an alarm module and it can not be extracted from that module. If he can't find the PIN card, you will have to contact your Lotus dealer, supply them with proof of ownership, and then they can get you the PIN.
Why don't you just use one of the alarm fobs to turn off the alarm?

The alarm fob was not with the car, and when I retrieved it from the owner I found that not only didn't it work, but there were no guts in the fob

Owner was under the impression that the alarm had been totally disabled when he bought the car.

I'm afraid you are out of luck then and will have to contact Lotus to get the PIN. If you want a replacement fob for the the one with no guts, I have some for sale here: FS: Cobra Alarm Fobs/Remotes but you will still need the PIN in order to make a new fob work with your alarm.

Well I think I have the correct PIN, but after bothering some neighbors, destroying my own hearing and not accomplishing anything, I'm going to need to trailer it to a field where it won't bother anybody and try again to disarm the alarm and demobilizer again with hearing protection on.

Correct me if I am wrong, please.

First, with the battery reconnected and the siren screaming, I should be able to do the "Disarming alarm/immobilizer using Pin" to shut down the alarm and start the car.

Second, when the above has been accomplished, I should be able to sync in a new key fob.

Correct, except that if it is a new remote it needs to be programmed not resync.

Went out in the country with ear protection, the code and the instructions and got it working. Thanks for the help.
