Urgent: Exige is Locked, Battery Dead - LotusTalk

I need an advice before I call a locksmith. I locked the car (Exige) using the remote, and the battery died. so cannot open with the remote, cannot open using the keys, and no access to open the engine cover for a jumpstart.

Any ideas? Any secret access to open the engine lid, or ways to unlock the doors?

Take off the driver's (left hand) side access panel... there are jumper posts there. You can jump the car and unlock it.

Yes. The positive terminal is covered with a red boot (pop it off to jump the car), the negative is bare.

Why can't you open the doors with a key when the battery is dead? or open the trunk and jump the car. How is the Exige different from the Elise in this respect?

The key doesn't unlock the doors. The key only allows you to "deadbolt" the doors.

Same as the elise.

The key wont unlock the door if the door was locked with the remote...

You cant open the Exige hatch with a key. There is a lever in the drivers compartment that you have to pull. If the car is locked and you cant get in you cannot open the hatch.

Just restating what's been said: the Elise has the same problem, except you can unlock the trunk/boot with the key and charge or jump the battery directly. Not possible with the Exige, so Lotus put terminals under the driver's front panel, which is alarmed. You still need a the proper sized allen wrench to access the terminals however.
