What are the original buttons?

I'm considering adding a couple of buttons to the dash. One is for tonyw's heater bypass kit, and the other is for a garage remote.

I'd like to add the to the panel where the headlight switches are, and I'd like it so they mimicked the look of the existing switches. Can anyone tell me where I can get more of these buttons?

I might need an third for my neon undertray kit, and a fourth for the chandelier I'm going to hang from the soft top.

Bound to be able to get them from the dealer too.

IIRC, someone here posted a source that had different colors, etc. but I can't find the thread.

Dave might know (being the electronics supply whiz).
I thought the trick with the heater bypass kit was to use a combo that replaced one of the HVAC pots?

Elise Shop has them for 12 USD. That's better. They have chrome rings. I might do that.

The UK cars have the start button and the switches on the passenger side,so maybe you could get one from the UK and install it on the other side of the car, since it would be easy to reach.

I used the dual purpose pull/turn swich that replaces the temperature knob for Tonys heater bypass and an very pleased with it since it doesnt requie another switch. Tony is the wiring and soldering guru, so he did it for me since I was clueless..

I also hard wired my remote iinto the power source between the seatss since it is 12 volts and so it the battery for my remote (Genie Intellicode), This way you dont have to worry about replacing batteries in the remote. I velcroed it to the area right in front of the power outlet, so I just have to put my thumb down behind me and I can hit it.

So is that what that blank panel with the cubby is for on the pass side? It never occured to me it could just be the start button panel for RHD cars.

I was going to suggest going with the OEM. But just checked the price.... about $65 for the OEM switch

If you look at the dash, you'll see that its actually completely symmetrical. The airbag and guage cluster areas are the same size and shape too, so that they can just be switched around.

Lotus garage has the piece that has the cutout for the starter button, and either 2 ($19) or three ($21) other buttons. It should fit in the passenger side cubby and then you just need to add the switches.

I believe that the two hole version is for the earlier cars (under serial number 400) that didnt have the wiring for the driving lights, and the 3 hole is for cars that have driving lights prewired.

If anyone with an earlier car ordered the driving light kits later on, then they should have came with a new panel that that has 3 holes. Maybe someone has a spare one with 2 holes that they are looking to sell.

Tony ships two versions. One as you describe and one with a simple toggle switch you mount "somewhere". I have the second.

I just ordered the 3 button switch panel from lotusgarage.com. Now I need to find the switch.

$65 oem is a bit absurd, and the others stores linked to are in the UK...so shipping and exchange rates turns it into a $50 deal. I'll keep looking for something domestic.

I might replace the existing buttons if it turns out to be more cost effective. I think they're fugly anyway.

I tracked down the manufacturer of these buttons, APEM. Here is a link to the spec sheet:

http://www.apem.com/pdf/IP-latching.pdf

They make latching versions of the buttons used in our cars. I'd like to order a blue one with a chrome bezel. In the aforementioned documentation, it says "Packaging unit : 25 pieces". I think that means you have to order 25. Any interest in getting buttons with me?

If you end up not going with the OEM-look, you might want to look at aircraft switches. Some include a circuit breaker....like these......

try Mouser Electronics - Electronic Component Distributor or US - Electronic Components Distributor | Newark.com or Digi-Key Corporation - USA Home Page for single qty. pieces.

Much thanks. None of them list

IPR1FAD2LOB101 (round, chrome ring, blue, on/off)

but I'll send them email and see if I get lucky.

99.9% that if those guys (Newark, Mouser, Digikey) don't list it on their site, they won't / can't get it for you. They have huge inventory and are great for that, but don't deal in small qty. or special orders, kind of like the electronics version of Wal-Mart. That being said, some of the 'other' non-mass-volume distributors might. I'd try your local guy first.

APEM Switches, Joysticks and Membranes Distributors

Good luck.
