Question Alpine v. JVC KD-NX5000

I'm eligible to get the up graded JVC KD-NX5000 head unit by virtue of my recent new car purchase.

I currently have the Alpine head unit with I-pod adapter. Beyond the coolness factor, is there any reason to go with the 'upgraded' JVC KD-NX5000 head unit. I was hoping to have two units, sell the JVC head unit and use the $$ to do other modifications. Per the terms of the upgrade I have to send my Alpine head unit as an exchange.

I don't see using the navigation feature very often I'm more interested in simplicity of operation and getting decent sound from my I-pod into my stereo. I have a large I-tunes collection so transfering to the JVC KD-NX5000 internal drive is a not reasonable alternative for me.

Would it make any sense to do the exchange, sell the JVC KD-NX5000 head unit and then buy a replacement Alpine head unit?

Any other thoughts?

I've seen the JVC unit sell for about $695 IIRC. The Alpine unit, again IIRC, was about 1/2 that.

I have the previous JVC head unit. I believe the operating system is similar. IMHO, the Ipod navigation is nothing special. If that is all you care about, I hear that the newer Alpines are much better.

BUT, the JVC screen is excellent for a rear view camera if that is important to you. I overcame the ipod shortcomings by making playlists based on ratings.

JVC Rocks!

I just had my new JVC installed and I have to admit, despite my original trepidation about the switch, the JVC is FAR superior. If your IPOD is of importance you just need to get the JVC IPOD adapter, $50 at Best Buy. This unit is amazing and the picture quality of the DVD is way cool. Too many features to mention here but I feel like I have a toy within a toy. I am driving around town just to enjoy it. DO THE SWITCH!!! It's worth it...crazy unit.

Not sure I understand. Is Lotus offering you an upgrade / replacement? I bought my 07 Exige S in Late October this year and have the Alpine. I absolutely hate the stereo, it's easily the least intuitive unit that I've used, so I'd love to swap it.

Not a real educated response but I've always used Alpine and have never had a problem with anything (speakers, amps, or head units). They always get a thumbs up from me.
