Front Alpine speakers

Not sure if this is a topic thats been done to death as over in the UK not so many people have the later style dash so stick with me
I have had a couple of S2's with the UK spec dash and never had a problem with speakers but just before I got my latest Exige I borrowed an elise with the new dash and Alpine speakers, after a couple of days the front speakers started to make noises like they were blown, it sounded like you could hear the cones moving if that makes sense?
I had not really played them too loud as I never really turn it up that loud tbh, so I just put the fader to the rear and all was fine.
I have had my exige a few months now and everything has been great however over the weekend the front right speaker has started to make the same noises as the other car.... So my question is, is this common? are the speakers just poor quality? and whats a good direct replacement?

p.s. I had not changed any settings, it just suddenly started.
