My iPod Install

I installed my iPod Mini in my Lisa today. Here's the scoop:

http://www.quinndunki.com/lotus/ipod

The blaupunkt controller works quite well. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome.

Hey Randy- any chance you could post this in the Library section, for permanent reference?

Sandy

PS. Sorry for the cross-post. I put this in the other Electrical forum by mistake.

I don't remember, honestly. I bought the adapter from Crutchfield. The link to it is in my instructions.

By the way, has anyone else tried this? There's still one thing I can't figure
out- how to upgrade the firmware. The last couple of paragraphs on my
installation instructions explain how far I've gotten. If anyone else has figured
out how to upgrade to the "Text" version of the firmware, please let me know. The documentation that comes with this adapter thing is completely useless.

Try this for the update...

http://www.blaupunkt.co.uk/download/...ections_gb.pdf

I don't have an ipod or the cable, but it interested me enough to do a little research. I found this, I hope it helps!

I found it at this page:

Wow, that's great info. Thanks so much!

Now if only I could get the interface to work. Today, after having it hooked up for one day, it just stopped registering that the iPod is connected. The headunit acts as though nothing is hooked up to the CDC port all of a sudden.

Sigh...

Mine had that problem. I had to reboot the ipod.

Today though, my radio forgot that it had a CDC hookup and forgot about the software I guess. It just shows AUX1/AUX2 now after having it all working for a week or so :/
I'm becoming tempted to take the cable back and replace the head unit with something else.

Should be fine as long as its not one of the original ones (maybe the first two?). It needs to be one with the dock connector that all the current ones use.

Yes, mine was doing the second thing- showing AUX1 instead of CDC mode. I disconnected the adapter from the radio, and reconnected it. Seemed to fix it.

The Nano uses the same standard dock connector, so it should work fine.

By the way everyone, I updated my instructions with more details and firmware installation steps. I hope someone finds it helpful- figuring this stuff out on my own was frustrating.

Thanks for the update post. I have made an inquiry already on the Ipod Adaptor. Given no standard 12V power plug in the Elise (I use the MonsterCable InCarPlay in some other vehicles), I like the way this integrates.

Hi all,

I am glad I am not the only one with problems using the Blaupunkt interface. I have had my Ipod lock up - reboot Ipod, only recognise 2 playlists - unplug the radio, no CDC - unplug the radio and I cannot get past 10 playlists. Suspected it was the interface and had it replace but no better. On the Woodstock unit fitted in Europe you have to change the menu to see the track names. You have the option for track number or track name (doesn't say that anywhere in the instructions)

I'm calling bull**** on this one (from your site) Sandy. Sure it's not engine/alternator noise? Is there a good grounding point on the ipod/blaupunkt interface? If not, I bet we can make one.

I installed a stereo jack leading to the compartment by the driver door this evening for my ipod. It was fun to do and works perfectly as planned, but I am not sure it is what I want; having to take the thing out to look at what is being played is a pain. I am thinking of an ipod controller such as you installed, but the firmware seems a little in it's infancy at the moment.

Having said that, perhaps I need to be more "playlistey" and just let a load of songs play but I am too skittish - I think of a new song to listen to half way through the current one. Having just got a Nano I am quickly realising I need to stop thinking in an album-centric way and just load the ipod with a set of songs, all of which I want to listen to.

I got tired of my iPod living in the cubby, because I'll never be happy with shuffle mode. I got a Nano, ran the cable so that it emerges from under the sill cover near my elbow and wrapped a small amount of velcro on the plug end of the cable. I put the opposite piece of velcro on the sill about where my hand naturally falls so that the Nano stays there but is free to pivot a bit. I can then work the Nano with one hand and see what's on the screen with minimal eyeball time. That's about all I need.

Yah, I've seen the "only recognizes two lists" problem also. That seemed to resolve itself after a while. You won't get more than 10 playlists unless you upgrade the firmware.

As for the track names, yah, I fiddled with all the menu settings I could find, but couldn't get the track names to display with any firmware version.

Most issues with this thing seem to resolve themselves if you disconnect the interface harness from the radio, and reconnect it.

Nope, definitely hard drive noise. Only happens when changing tracks, and if you hold the iPod up to your ear, you can hear the same noises come from it as are coming from the speakers. It's unmistakably hard drive noise.
