Need an antenna, which one?

I just bought my 2005 Elise, I live in a major city, and I notice my reception is horrible. I only get one station, and it's scratchy. So, once I removed the front passenger inspection panel to find that the antenna is missing. There is just an open connector.

Should I bother investing in the stock antenna? I've read a lot of posts on here about how the stock antenna sucks, but then again, I've haven't read about any good solutions. Would the $10 ebay antenna for the Elise work just as well as the stock antenna? Doesn't seem like there was much to the stock Elise antenna anyways.

I just want to listen to my morning show on the way to work...

Oh, and hello, just joined the forum , just bought my first Elise. 2005 Elise, Titanium, Starshield,Sport, and Touring packages.

The stock antenna is not all that bad, pulls in strong stations just fine.

not famiiar with the '05, but my '05 elise antenna is just a piece of wire taped to the inside of the front clam.
it's not great but in a city it works.
here's a pic. (if it works...)

Ah ha, yeah, it's definitely missing then, don't have that. I was hoping it had just fallen down or something but something that big would be noticeable. I think for now I'll get a replacement stock one and see how that works, they can't cost that much right....

CD-player.

And the radio gets NPR. That's about it.

umm... It's an antenna, and while there's a nice little connection in there, you could do the following:

Buy a coil of bell wire at radioshack, along with a male and female banana clip and some foam tape. Solder up the bell wire to a male and female connection, make sure the female connection reaches where it needs to inside the car, and leave the male connection with plenty of length. Take off the clam and route the bell wire all over the place. Plug the male end (soltered to the wire routed around the clam) into the female end (routed to the receiver). Wrap it up in foam tape, wrap that up in some elecrical tape. Put clam back on.

I would do that before buying anything OEM or after market.

Oh, and I have a question: has anyone here ever used their CD player? REALLY? I have a ipod connection in my exige, and use a nano (solid state, as opposed to a spinning hard drive). I would attempt to transport unwrapped fine china in my car before I put a CD into the head unit slot. Do you get it out with tweezers when you hit a pothole, or do you pull the headunit and take the metal covers off?
