Stereo keeps cutting in and out

This has been happening for the last couple of days. Has anyone experienced this. Dying fuse maybe?

I think so. It opens and closes without a problem.

I think a fuse is either good or bad....no in-between.

I vote for an intermittent ground.

Nope, fuses are either good or bad, nothing in between. Does the stereo cut in and out on all sources (i.e. AM/FM/CD/Sat)? It could be a voltage problem, as some head units are sensitive to low voltage.

EDIT: Tracy and Bane beat me.

EDIT2: Aftermarket or OEM stereo? Power amp? Does the display cut out too, or just the sound?

All stock from 07. The display and audio both cut out simultaneously. Power goes completely out. It sometimes will do it about 4 times within a minute. It will cut out, then the HU will load back up as if I was just turning the car back on.

OK, next question: does it happen while the engine is running, off, or both?

Well, at this point I'd say the two most likely causes are either a loose wire/connector, or a malfunctioning head unit.

Does the same thing occur regardless of the volume setting? I had something similar happen as a result of a pinched wire to one of the speakers, however, it would only occur when the volume setting was past about 30%.

I have a problem with my stereo as well. Whenever I'm listening to AM radio and step on the brake, only static comes out of the speakers. As soon as I release the brake, everything returns to normal. I'm assuming its a bad ground, or somehing similar. I don't listen to AM enough to be a problem but was definitely planning to have it looked at the next time I bring the car in for service.

Loose wire/harness/ground/etc.

The AM radio bit is a known problem, if you take it in to your dealer they should know how to fix it. Improper shielding of some wires or something, but there was a bulletin about it and it took them like 15 minutes to fix mine. No big deal. That being said, I don't know what they did, so if you're out of warranty I am not much help.

Thanks. It's still under warranty and it's good to hear that it's a simple fix. I'll probably have it looked at next time I bring it in. Fortunately the only time I listen to AM is when I'm stuck in traffic and trying to find a traffic report.

Is there any way that I can find out if its a bad wire or if its the HU completely? I don't want to go to Tampa just to find out that they have to order a new HU.

Which HU is it? The Alpines are fairly easy to remove; you take off the faceplate, use a small screwdriver to release the locking pins on each side of the HU, then slide it out. When it's out, you can check the wiring connector, and even replace the faceplate and turn it on... jiggle the wiring and see if it cuts out.

If the HU cuts out when the engine is off and the car is sitting perfectly still, I'd lean toward it being the HU though...
