Tweeter extremely quiet on Alpine SPX-13REF speakers

So I picked up a pair of these components to throw in the front, along with Jim Clayton's rings. Fitment took a little work, but they fit. Problem is, the tweeters are extremely quiet. The only way I can hear them is to hold it right up to my ear and even then, it's extremely hard to hear. The woofer works fine. I've hooked the tweeter wiring directly to the crossover as well as swapped it with the other tweeter and I get the same thing.

According to the diagram on the back of the box it is correctly installed (no owner's manual came in the box), and the tweeter is at max volume setting on the crossover. Any ideas?

Edit: Forgot to mention, this is hooked up an Alpine MRP-F250, if that is relavent.

I called alpine and the only reccomendation their tech support had was to turn up the trebel on the head unit

I'm hoping one of you audio gurus will have some advice.

Most all component speakers have a gain cut for the tweeter on the crossover. Most are pre-set to -6 or -3 db from the factory. My guess would be yours are as well. Try setting them to reference (0db) and give it a listen.

Right, it was at 0 db from the factory and I left it as such. I tried it with it at -3 db, -6 db, and -9 db but obviously it didn't make it any louder.

Odd. Could be a placement issue, or perhaps they're just wanting more power. The speakers are rated for 60 watts RMS, and if you're driving them in a normal 4-ohm stereo setup from the amp, you're only sending 40 watts to them.

I'd recommend swapping the amp for a PDX-5, turn the gains down a good bit so you don't overdrive the speakers, and you'll probably get the output you're after.
