Best roads in/around Austin, Texas?

Hello all,

recently drove down to Austin for a visit, and stumbled upon Old Spicewood Springs Road, a bit North of town.

I was in a Cadillac CTS-V, but it was still a lot of fun!!

I've never had the chance to drive on such a tight, constantly weaving, dipping, and rising road before. It was fantastic!!!

The weekend I found the road, I killed time careening through curve after curve, sharpening my skill, and learning the road a bit better every time.

That same weekend also turned out to be the first time I drove a Lotus. I hopped in a Phantom Black Exige S for a quick spin, and although I didn't get to take many curves, I was ADDICTED.

An Elise is a very real possibility in the near future, and since we don't have anything here in Louisiana that isn't flat or straight, I was planning on making a trip back down to Austin to have another go at that old road.

Anyone know of some other good roads in the area I should try????

Thanks!

Try 1431 all the way to Marble Falls. It is beautiful.

There are hoards of racoons out there that don't look both ways.

1826 is fun.

City Park Road to Oak Shores Drive to Pearce is a harrowing jaunt.

Comanche Trails out to Windy Point is pretty scary too.

I actually live off of Spicewood Springs. I enjoy driving it between 360 and Old Lampasas but you have to watch for deer/dogs/bicyclists/etc.

I really enjoy driving from Anderson Mill Road out to 2769 and then to 1431 on Lime Creek. Pretty challenging on a motorcycle (sometimes in a bad way if there's lots of gravel on Lime Creek).

Lots of good drives listed here, and many of them include those two roads in the loop:

A couple other options that intersect 1431 between Lago Vista and Marble Falls: take Singleton Bend Road toward Lake Travis and visit Flat Creek Winery. Or, go down Cow Creek Road (off 1431 in the same area, but the other direction away from the lake) and it will intersect with 1174, which is a nice drive all the way to Betram at Hwy 29. Take Hwy 29 west toward Llano--some nice curves between Burnet and the Inks Lake State Park turnoff.
