Decker has been repaved!

Ahh, finally! Yes, children of the cali canyons, the deadly Decker Road has just been repaved, all the way from the PCH to Mulholland Highway!

It is very chattery in spots, with little tiny bumps, but overall it's clean blacktop with fresh paint.... and the now-familiar ridiculously technical bits, minimal traffic, few driveways, and stupendous views.

Also of note, that astonishingly technical stretch of Mulholland Highway between Kanaan-Dume and Decker was also repaved, making it just silly fun, without the gravel spots and big cracks.

Fan-freaking-tastic!

Funny you say that. I was driving by there earlier today, wrapping up a PCH trip all the way down to LAX. I remember hearing about all of the canyon roads on this board and had to go check them out before I went to the airport (in the rental ).

Man, you guys have some of the nicest drives in the country out there. PCH between Big Sur and San Simeon was really nice, too.

Cudacharlie,

Thanks for your report! Yes, one of my favorites too!
Also, if you go further on Westalke (after Decker-Mulholland intersection), it's freshly paved and striped too, almost to Potrero!

I was on the stretch on Muholland between Decker and Kanan...TODAY. That stretch was not freshly paved, just old asphalt. Did you overlook something?

Make sure you visit the Hearst Castle. Gotta be one of the NEW wonders of the world. Been there a bunch of times.

Just went up for the Historic Races in Carmel. Can't wait for next year. Been up there the last 14 years. This year Lambos lined both sides of the street in Carmel, just blocks from my sister's pad. Clint Eastwood owns mega real estate in the area, according to sis. Golf courses (including Pebble Beach), Inn's with restaurants, several homes, places for planes and helicopters to land ... he does like the area. He even named his production company after a creek in the area...Malpaso.

The drive from Big Sur to Carmel Highlands ain't bad either.

Okay, I'm not sure where the super-technical part is, I thought it was mulholland hwy after the turn intersection with decker, but I can't remember now. You'll know it when you're on it! It's on the fairly level area between Encinal and Decker, I guess... It is THE MOST hairy bit of road I've ever seen. If you can keep out of first gear then it's an accomplishment...
