Driving from Ventura County to San Simeon on 7-26-08. Recommendations?

Hi all,

It is our 16th wedding anniversary and we are heading up to San Simeon for the weekend in the Elise.

Obviously we are taking the 1 as much as possible and maybe will shoot up to Big Sur if time allows.

We have a room booked already but would love some fun side road recommendations and restaurant recommendations.

Sorry for the late notice!!

Mark

Stay away from Gorda along Hwy1 for gas. It has been documented as the most expensive gas station in the State.

The wine country there is pretty good and quite charming (way better than Temecula, not as big as Napa)

There is breeding beach for elephant seals there, but I'm not sure how many are there now. Breeding season is in the winter. Amazing to watch, not so amazing to smell.
