Glendora - San Gabriel Mountians, So Cal
I just got done taking Glendora Ridge Road. Here is the drive I did. Anybody wants to go on it drop me a note as it is in my backyard! I looked it up on maps.google.com and there are some variations. But this was an awesome drive.
Went up Mt. Baldy Road to E. Fork Road (Glendora Ridge Road) make a left. This is one of the most amazing local roads just corner after corner. Barely got out of 2nd as I wanted to keep the revs up. The wife did not pee her pants once. You think after two crazy corners around a bend that it would open up. It does not just more and more corners . If you have driven all the way up to Baldy the corners on E. Fork Road are much better IMHO as I found the Baldy corners to be too tight and steep banking not much fun. Starts off looking like somebody’s driveway. Just a small road no center line. Stay to your side as you might eventually come across somebody going the other way. There is a lookout over the valley very nice about 3 miles. After 7 miles?? You will come to a fork with a gate that leads to Glendora Mountain Road that has been closed for quite some time. I took a right and continued another 5 miles to N. San Dimas Canyon Road (Highway 39) and took a left that is where I finally ran into other cars as it is paved much better and more traffic. I took this ride on Sunday and nary saw anybody and the cars I did see pulled over at the turnouts. Very nice! Until Highway 39 there are no turnouts. But Hwy 39 is not very fun just the cool down towards the 210 freeway and home. I don't think I had the stamina to turn around and go back the way I came. I was very surprised to be able to catch up with some motorcycles multiple times. I would slow down give them a head start then pow catch right up with them. After a year of owning the car and still not having a track day I am getting better at driving it. As a good Lotus enthusiast told me when you think you are going too fast in the corner lay on it cus if you lift while in the apex the backend will come around. This was a hard lesson to learn but it does work which builds confidence. That was fun ![]()

I used to ride my motorcycles at GMR (Glendora Mtn Road) until I moved south by Ortega Hwy.
I hang with most bikes in the canyon myself. Good job. The Elise really can move with them. ![]()

Hey!
I live in Glendora! I am very familiar with all those roads and have been on them all. Any time you go up there, let me know. It is VERY unfortunate that they closed Glendora Mtn. Road. That is pretty much heaven as far as quick, windy roads go... |
