Sure, I do it all the time. Remove the V1 during your drive through VA & DC - detectors are against the law and they have 'detector detectors'

I don't know why not as long as it's turned off . I know a guy thats a pilot
that was on an airline flight, and had his garmin aviation portable GPS.
He ask the stewardess If he could turn it on, she said "give it to me I'll
go ask the pilots" she went up front and then came back in about 10 minutes.
She said "I guess it'll be okay they pilots were using it to steer the plane".
I'd just turn it off and put in your bag If they ask you about it tell them
what your doing with it.

virginia is real tough on speeding, they have every reason to nail you.
i did the miami to pittsburgh thing but took an overnight.
speeding anywhere will get expensive, especially when you're driving one of them high-falutin exotics.
spend the extra day and really enjoy the trip.
good luck and have a good trip

I am sticking it in a checked bag. I need to bring tire plugs and a compressor too.

I'm under the impression that the V1 is undetectable.

yes. They have them in VA.
You will not drive through DC though, just around.
V1 is really handy in Maryland! MD police are dumb.

I made it. No tickets. Florida cops seemed to be the worst. Had a mustang mach one drug seizure cop car tail me with other vehicles speeding past him.

No close calls but I kept the speed low (took me 18 hours). On the plus side that slower speed netted around 32mpg!

Edit: BTW Autumn Gold in person is not offensive. It is really more gold than the green it appears in the pictures. To me it is much less flashy than CO, yellow, bright blue, red, etc.
