More great advice, thanks all!

I don't have the conviction to plan everything in full; I am a bit too spontaneous for that. However I am noting every one of the suggestions and will add all of them to a map and see how they fit together. Driving all the way with no plan would be a real waste.

I am not sure I can take a spare tyre. Where would the mental hitch hikers sit? Sods Law also dictates that if I take a rear a front will go, and vice versa.

I would be delighted for anyone to join me for any part of the journey. Randy, the way things stand at the moment I need to do it to be back in Philly by the beginning of March to look for a new job. If my Greencard comes in before then I shall have a lot more time to play, and could then perhaps delay until Spring.

I read the NSX journal; very enjoyable

US 89A from Sedona to Jerome is not the fun part... the fun parts are between Flagstaff just before you reach Sedona and then past Jerome towards Prescott.

A bicycle pump might be a good alternative to an electric air pump.

you know the memory is the second thing that goes, that is correct the last little bit before Jerome then into Prescott. ( Jerome's like a "little" New Hope, if you've been to New Hope, PA)

Just folling around. Good luck it should be a blast, I wish I had time for a trip like that!

If you end up taking a route 66 trip let me know when you might be passing through St Louis. I'd be interested in meeting up and tagging along for a couple hours.

Doug,

If you're not already a member of Lotus Ltd, join and ask them to rush you the membership packet.

There is a resource wherein LL members volunteer to be on a 'call' list for other members who may need some type of roadside assistance when in the respective neighborhood.

Anybody here of course would be of service, but you can access the entire Lotus community for same through Lotus Ltd.

Just an update for everyone. Doug and I are going to meet up this weekend and start planning the road trip. I quit my job 2 days ago, told the wife that I was going to finish up a few things around the house for the rest of the month and then we would be heading out early feb if all goes to plan(the elise and I...not her)!!

So far I was thinking we would stop at some dealers along the way, also meet up with some other ET people...anyone else with any suggestions please keep them coming!!

Granted, I know we just came out of one of the warmest years on record, but do you think the middle of winter is the best time to plan this trip? (I've always wanted to do a x-country trip too btw )

How many days do you think it will take for a round trip? I can probably beg, borrow, and plead to move some vacation days around.

When I did it I collected the names and phone numbers of rover people throughout my trip route. You should do the same. A LOT of people offered me a free place to stay and hang out and nearly everyone was willing to help if I broke down. On the way out I ended up replacing a water pump and a few roadside repairs so I only needed the help of one friend. I know an elise is new and all, but it still might help, and if nothing else you can get a beer with a bunch of forum members on the way.

Good luck!!

PS ditto on the cheap compressor and plugs. Wal-mart has it all for cheap.

Nearer the date it would be great to arrange to meet people along the way, and gaining wingmen for legs of the journey would be a treat.

kyohan03 the LL membership is something I will get on. Thanks

Will you be carrying the Olympic torch along the way?

What a fantastic idea. Maybe just drag a flaming A048 behind the car.

Why not activate a dedicated cell phone and post the number here. We could all call you at all hours of the day.
