Road Trip - Brand New Elise
I'm looking at picking up a new Elise this summer. I'm wanting to get one from somewhere cross country so as to force myself to spend some quality time up front returning home. The trip will be about 1400 miles.
Has anyone done anything like this; that is, buying and driving a brand new Lotus cross country then getting the first service a few hundred miles over 1000 miles? Any downside here or advise? |

I'd stick to the 1000 mile interval as close as possible, if it were me. Establish a relationship with a dealer in or near your state, in case you have issue.
You can have as much fun driving in a big circle, beginning and ending near home. Just my two cents. Good luck, and enjoy your car, either way. Cheers! |

I thought about that - the building a relationship with the local dealer. However, I found the '06 I wanted elsewhere and it just started to sound like a good trip but the 1000 mile service sort of worries me.

I bought mine in Columbus, OH and drove 1400 miles home.
You can have the first service done anywhere from 1000-1500 miles and be within warranty specs. It's a fun drive, but it's frustrating not being able to really push it because of break-in period. Also, make sure to vary your RPMs. Lastly, you may want to consider having the dealer ship the hard top, so you can go topless. Shipping the top is a PIA, but a dealer should have the means to do it, and to close a deal, I bet they would. |
