New game!

Where's Randy?

How about we guess how many miles Randy does everyday? He'll have to keep a log of everyday mileage but I bet he would be doing that anyhow. Winner gets something, not sure what could be offered for such an feat. Maybe we all pitch in for a candy bar of the winner's choice.

I will be arriving in Albuquerque the day you (Randy) leave.

weird.

... oh, and there's one Elisetalker (and potententially the only future Elise owner in NM) that lives in ABQ. If you're going to be there for any length of time (hours), you guys should meet up... he, too, is getting a Saffron Elise.

What hurricane, we no fear no storm!

Coastal NC is hurricane alley! The elise is very aerodynamic, just drive INTO the wind, stay on high ground though, ground clearance and all.

Can't wait to hear your stories, view your pictures.

you were SY LSS right? Hardtop?

Has anyone ordered the Blue interior on Luxury Package?

Have a safe trip Randy. And, of course, enjoy the drive (though that probably didn't need to be said)!

He is right,

Leather, Electric window, MP3, Net, Sound insulation for $1350
Sound like luxury items to me

Wait, I forgot, it reduces weight on the electric window, so I guess is a performance luxury package

Wind doesn't bother the Elise as much as I thought it would. I have had a few semi's next to me and honestly I was expecting to get blown o/c (off course). The car feels more stable next to large trucks then I remember my Miata being. Hurricanes on the other hand...

Randy:

Sounds like a fun trip! A quick warning however..

Driving through Texas is boring! I've made the drive from TX to CA and back. While I went through Phoenix (and then Vegas whoop!) It took 8 hours to get out of the state.

Enjoy your visit to Austin! How long you staying?

I am staying in Austin just overnight and long enough to take the car in for service.

Many people have warned me about West Texas.

I miss the midwest mostly. North Carolina, Tennesee, southwest to Austin Texas. Then maybe northwest toward Oklahoma and then west to New Mexico, Arizona, California.

Northern New Mexico is nice. I'm sure it's going to be too far out of your way Randy, but the high road to Taos is a nice scenic route. In any case look forward to checking out the log. Take lots of pics and don't forget to keep the Elise in the foreground.

Randy,
You might consider a detour up through Moab(stunning vistas) and then on over through Furnace Creek(death Valley). Get up @ 6:00 AM and play 9 holes(you can rent clubs) the mercury will only be around 85-90 degrees at 6AM. I did it in August three years ago. The best steak dinner I've ever had at the Furnace Creek lodge. They cater to the automotive mfgrs that frequent the place for hot weather testing(I think the filet was $55 though!)
You might see some interesting future models. When I was there we saw some pre-production 03 Navigators and a Toyota that I've never seen in the states(probably a non US model).

Well, the best laid plans and all....

I have to make some changes to the trip. I am going to be pushing it, where I was planning on some parts being more leisurely. I will not do Route 66. I will not do any backroads past Austin.

I hope to make it From Atlanta, through the Tail of the Dragon, across the Cherohala Skyway into Tennessee. Down US 11 and across US 64. Stop somewhere in Tennessee.

On Tuesday, drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway down to Natchez Mississippi and then drive backroads to Austin. This will not be an easy leg, maybe 1000 miles.

Wednesday will be a difficult day also. Get the car serviced at Autostrada. Leave and drive to Tucson Arizona, about 900 miles. The distance is not a big deal, but the late start because of the service may cause me to get into Tucson very late.

Thursday, leave Tucson and head straight to San Diego and try to arrive at noon. My deadline is 3:00pm Thursday. I absolutely have to be back by this time to take my wife to the hospital.

I know this trip now sounds more brutal, but I intend on still enjoying the experience. And I intend on getting back by Thursday noon.
[blues brothers] We are on a mission [/blues brothers]

Updated- http://www.eliseroadtrip.com/trip.php

I will make a new goal to do Route 66 and some other areas later.

Stop at a restaurant called "Chuey's" in Van Horn, Texas. It's a little east of El Paso. Great place. John Madden always stops there when going cross country in his Madden Cruiser. It's a total hole in the wall with great Mexican food. I guess it's "tex-mex" by definition.

I was there a few years ago and plan to stop there again this October when I drive from Baltimore to Tucson.

Last time I was there, I had lunch next to Tommy Lee Jones. He owns a ranch near there....I'm told.
