TUNA CANYON!!! (Los Angeles/Ventura Co.)

An AMAZING twisty road, downhill, ONE WAY full of incredible hairpins and incredible fun! How many of you experienced this E-ticket road (and survived in one piece)?

Two or three times a week for me.

No intersections.
No cross-traffic.
No oncoming traffic.
No driveways.
No pedestrians.
No bicyclists.
No trash cans.
No NOTHING!

There's another single-track (hwy 58 or 39?) somewhere in Central CA that I've never been to.... video is on club111's site...

I've heard that there are a few drivers during the late night use tuna as a up hill without checking for traffic.

Tuna is by far the most excellent road for the Lotus. I haven't driven it in a looooong time since we usually go in a group and I don't think it's a good road for beginners.

Kudos to those who drive it hard in anything that weighs more than a Lotus. Brake fade would freak me out up there.

Please watch for bicycles, I used to ride both up and down Tuna canyon all the time. I drove it too, so not saying you shouldn't play in the Elise, just that it seems more empty than it is...

This past week-end's drive was the first time I had driven or been on Tuna Canyon. And becuase I did not get enough, I went up Decker and down Westlake blvd/ Decker, and joined up with everybody in the parking lot back in Westlake.

I've driven it a bunch of times, it's good but not one of my favorites, it doesn't have a nice rhythm to it IMO and you have to spend a lot of time riding the brakes (not to mention it is very dangerous)

Did you guys know that they hold a gravity race (a high tech soap box derby) down that road? The gravity powered cars hit 60mph

ace10: too bad you're not on the west coast to experience Tuna.
If you ever have a trip and if you have a bit of time, we'll show you Tuna Cyn.

A bet there are great roads back East. I can't wait to drive the Dragon's Tail!

And I cant stand FISH! YUCK!

Photos? I have a couple of a rolled Miata on Tuna Canyon. You wouldn't like to see them, there was a LOT of blood. We had to jack-up the Miata to get him out of the car. He did not have a rollbar. It was not a pretty sight.

So....take it easy on Tuna for the first few times to acclimate, takes ultimate concentration and skill. Like knucklehead, it's not a road for beginners.

A guy I met in college showed led me to Tuna in his Mini then let me have at it for the downhill. Very fun... but very dangerous. While there are no cross streets, stop signs, etc. like all the canyons around there there is the occasional rocks/dirt on the road and sometimes people stop along the road. So watch out, but enjoy.

Yep there was a lone cyclist pedaling up hill against traffic as we came down with 15 or so cars ! Luckily we were going at a safe rate of speed and had radio communication in the first / last cars and a few in the middle, no problems we all just gave him as much space as possible and went around him

The first time I ran Tuna Cyn, I was behind Neil (aka The Stig) and Patricko was running behind me. These two are excellent drivers! Needless to say, I had to be on my game during that run! It was a blast and I was sweating buckets! I can't wait to hit Tuna Cyn again.
