Rubber mounts are for pussies.

ok, i welded up some motor mounts today. the pics look like crap because i took them about 2 seconds after liberally dousing them with flat black spray paint.

I basically welded them right to the frame rails of the car. There is a relatively large backing plate of 1/4" mild steel solid welded to the frame rail, then gussets made of 1/4" and 7ga mild steel holding the motor.

Compared to the stock mounts, this would probably hold a bridge.

Back Driver. (you can see the backing plate in this pic)

Quick pics. Built the lower radiator supports, but a bad call on a bleeder screw location is going to require a minor change.

The cage needs to be changed. The door bars hit the shoulder bolsters on the seats and the harness bar needs to be moved back a bit, but Vito said he will make the changes for free.

Holla.

From the peanut gallery: are you hoping to add a lot of stiffness with that cage? Nothing's really triangulated and I don't think the rear bars are going to a very strong point on the trunk floor.

The cage was built by a reputable chassis builder, but i share some similar concerns... However, the BMW does not have struts. It has shocks and springs. Those bars are fairly close to the spring perches.

But i agree... I think it could have been designed better. This guy builds chassis for 6 second cars weekly, so he must be doing something right, though... gotme.

I agree that the best place for the rear bars is not the "strut" towers for a non-coilover car but I thought the spring perches were in front of them on E30s. My wife has her car right now or I'd check.

There are some good E30 cage examples here:

Have a friend who took 12 years to build an aeroplane - went through several "slow" stages where little was achieved... these coincided with girlfriends

Newman - hopefully you have the Elise window fixed and a balance can be found Looking forward to the next update.

Car is done at the blasters, i need to pick it up. The slowdown isn't so much attributed to a female, or lack of interest, rather the fact that it's warm out. And that i own:

These three cars:

This Bike:

And this jetski:

Do you pull the jetski with the STi? That would look pretty badass.

And I thought you were done with Subarus after that little snow-night-rally experience?

Still enjoying the summer, nothing new to report except these showed up. The color is a wonderful gold. My camera phone makes it look gross.

Work VS-xx

Hy,i was thinking of squeezing the RB 26 dett engine in an E30 325is for a long time, but i didn't have any ideea HOW TO really do it(i stink at mechanics). Also, all my friends told me i was crazy.I found out about this through another forum. It seems i was right after all,it really works.Your work is an inspiration to me,keep it going .I don't have the skill to do that project, but i hope to find someone who can.
I also have some questions (keep in mind i'm a novice so bear with me):
What is the weight on an RB 26?(the engine with all the parts:radiator, starter engine, etc)What about the transmission, what does it weigh?I've heard the engine weighs about 227 kg but i'm not sure.
It would be possible to use a Getrag or a ZF transmission taken from another Bmw? (i'm thinking E36 M3 or E34 M5 or E39M5).I'm thinking if there is a way to use a transmission wich cand withstand the power of the RB 26 engine and also will fit in the original transmission tunnel...
It is possible to use the stock bi-turbo and manifold from the rb 26 dett? There is any room for that?
Also how can i bring the power of the rb 26 dett from 280 ps to about 400 HP at the flywheel without spending a lot of money?
If the questions are stupid, please bear with me,i'm just a beginner at this.
If anyone have any answers, please post.
Newman, keep it up,i'm all eyes an ears. Thanks man.
By the way,nice bike
