I por15'ed an entire old 911 once. It really did hang on me for about two weeks, even with me hitting the luffa. I'm told that if you don't prep right the por 15 comes off in large chunks looking as shiny as new. Looks like you did it right though.

The germans sure know how to gum up a car. That stuff in Porsche world is Wurth body schutz. Oh my god is it tough, I went through several wire cup brushes on a 4" Makita angle grinder. It also hides rust/rot well.

POR 15 is great if you want to paint OVER rust. Even with metal ready, on clean metal I have seen mixed results.

As you noted, you have to top coat it.

Yeah, I got some on my face too. And in my hair. It's practically impossible to stay clean when you're doing a big chassis like that.

oh the joys of bodywork...

there are a few things going on at the same time here, but this is how we are shaving the moldings. Here's an e30 with it's side moldings shaved. (nevermind the terrible e46 bodykit) I really like the look of leaving that lip there.

So here's what we're doing.

Remove moldings and paint around moldings with rough grit to assure filler adhesion.

Weld closed holes and grind flat to prevent moisture from penetrating. (not ground in pic)

Weld in a strip of 16GA 304 stainless to fill as much of the cavity as possible and grind down welds.

Fill in remaining area with fiberglass reinforced body filler:

We will do this all the way around the car and sand smooth, it's going really well, but that's on temporary hold at the moment.

So here is some of the bodywork i have been putting on. I had to actually build brackets to mount the front bumper because the guy stiffed me, but i don't think that they would have fit anyway due to my IC being so far forward.

Rear bumper and valence:

Side Skirt:

Front Bumper is on. It's SMASHED on there because of the IC placement, in fact i had to actually PULL the sides back because of IC interference!

Front Mtech1 valence.... I am going to have to cut the ****ing piss out of this thing...

Here is a shot that illustrates just how much needs to come off... the very top of the valence bolts to the front of the metal bumper and is covered up by trim. If you look how far it slopes back at the bottom, it's apparent that at the bottom of the valence the Rear of the IC is probably going to be in front of the bumper. HAHA.

It's going to have a VERY JDM look. Similar to how those guys run oil coolers mounted to the exterior of their bumpers... I've also seen a number of ICs mounted that way.

Hello BMW of friends, I would like to present my racing car to you. Whereby "mine" is not completely correct. We are consisting a small team of Christian (my brother), our father and me (Daniel). We have a small however fine engine haven club in prince forest and to drive to different meetings (Oschersleben, Most, Lausitzring etc.). Further information to our club here. Now to our car. It concerns a 325i which we according to our requirements optimized. Fast round times and functionality were the center of attention thereby. First we started with a 325i engine to now finally drive then with a 2,7er Sauger over on basis Schnitzer S3 a 2.7 litre turbo engine. This possesses a structure after variant 3, only with changed milling masses. At present no special pistons are blocked. The motor control is original with appropriate chip, it gives only 7. Injection nozzle, which connects with approximately 3000 U/min and which engine supplies with supply. That may surprise, however the engine runs very cleanly without errors and offers full thrust from 3000 U/min to approx.. 6500 U/min. It would go maltreating surely still some, yet we left it with test stand the 260PS with 0,6 bar load pressure. The car is thereby super motorized. If the turbo winds up kreischend, the Slicks in the first 3 courses their adhesion loses and then the Pop off doubts none uses more the power engine. Now would have to be able to deal first times chassis (and also driver) with the achievement, and accordingly "retrieve". The chassis is an unchanged H&R group of A chassis with firm setting lower of approximately 60mm. The brake assembly was converted in front for this season on 312x25mm. Because we had good experiences with the ATE PowerDiscs, we remained also with. Thus the Setup is correct we on E32 750i HBZ converted and the relief valve (to the rear) deactivated. In the back, but always piece for piece, perhaps also only next season is brake-technically surely also still rigged. The new brake provides in front in each case already times for leaving. If one got accustomed firstonce to the new pedal feeling, one enjoys about sufficient achievement without any Fading also in extreme situations. With "pedal feeling accustom" mean I that one should be somewhat gentler to the pedal around a blockade of the wheels to prevent.

As wheel set we drive 7x16 soft LINE ET 35. In addition 30mm disks for each side are installed in each case. Thus gives also no place problems at the brake. Slicks are naturally obligation, if the sport is really firstful operated. Our father in own contribution built the remarkable tail spoiler completely from aluminum. It is very stable and by the constructional organization against those copies available which can be acquired ajar. We adjusted our own very convincing Setup nevertheless. We will in front install ALPINA 147er spoiler for next running owing to our sponsor still another. Who I need to describe the idea for the lacquer finish probably not further. We are anyhow content with the new optics very. A coloured in any case enriching on the racing course: -) The pictures are of 10.03.2007 from Oschersleben. That was our first running in this season. Therefore we let concern it first times slowly. To the previous year are present apart from the brakes and the lacquer finish also at the engine some smaller optimization (treatment of cylinder heads). It ran also everything so far as expected. Next running by the way is in two weeks in Most.
Obviously translated from German.

Eff you mtech1 valence!

I don't care how much you cost. My intercooler is of a much higher priority.

(no i couldn't move the FMIC back anymore)

My buddy came over last night and helped me start installing the flares. Needless to say, they don't fit very well out of the box. About 90% of the way through the install i discovered that these are made from a thermoplastic material, not thermoset. (Urethane is a thermoset meaning it cannot be liquified and still retain it's original properties) That said, the flares are ABS and are very easily molded with heat. Had i figured this early on, I may have approached this a bit differently. There is a slight kink that i need to massage out, but i think it's going to look pretty rad.

I am going to paint them satin black. I want them to retain that "i don't give a f*uck what i have to do to put wider tires on look"

oh, and PS, the fuel door is actually being welded/glassed in, as the fuel cell is in the trunk.

PPS: The screws used are only temporary. I will ultimately use a button head cap screw, but i need to get the correct nutserts

last night i cut out the old fenders where they are covered up by the flares and used a nutsert tool to install #10-32 UNF threaded inserts into the car's body.

(i'm switching to standard hardware where ever i can because i can get it for next to nothing in stainless)

The car looks pretty funny with the factory flares cut off of the fenders. It's like a custom NARROWBODY. I'll snap some pics tonight...

i ran out of wire for my mig, but next up is welding up the seams where the rear fenders were cut, welding the sunroof in better, welding metal over the fuel door and welding the antenna hole closed...

meanwhile my body work friend has been plugging away at the molding shaving. It's coming along great. The passenger side of the car is almost done!

Nice job! I love watching how this project is coming together! Oh and I love how that intercooler sticks out of the bumper like that. It looks real bad@$$.

Last night more time was spent on the body. First, some pics from what was done yesterday:

Front fender cut out with nutsert installed:

Rear fender cut out and nutserts installed. It's hard to see but there is now a gap between the inner fender and the outer fender... This will need to be welded closed.

That was about all i got done yesterday... Here's a a pair of different views, showing the NARROWBODY CONVERSION:

So then on to new stuff.

The first thing i did was to weld up the gap created by cutting out the rae fenders:

Next i laid down more weld on the sunroof... don't want that to crack (only did half)

Then I welded up the hole where the fuel door was:

Meanwhile Xeon was doing his thing:

It's getting a lot closer. Removing the moldings is really going to modernize the car, while still maintaining the boxy hotness!

WASSAAAA

I've been following this thread for the past few months and I love it! Keep up the good work! That trans is quite beefy, is that due to the now unused AWD components in any way? I like your combination of functional mods coupled with aesthetic changes that need to be made to an e30. I can't wait to see those wheels mounted.

I thought you might like this since we're both making bastardized BMW's and people with whole BMW's don't seem to understand us.

I don't mean to derail your thread, but I figured it was about time I spoke up.

Just out of curiosity Newman, how does building this thing stack up to your other projects? I know dropping RBs into 240s isn't easy, nevermind into a BMW.

this is by far the most involved automotive project i've done. I've never actually done any major bodywork/bodymods to a car before.

the 240 was the second most involved project i've done, and was by no means even on par. I used prefabbed engine mounts. That project DID involve a RHD firewall swap and engine back exhaust fab, custom wiring and a whole lot more, it still pales in comparison...
