2010 gullwinged door Elise - Melkus RS2000

Here is the new Melkus RS2000 (reborn car brand based on the existing Elise)

Full story...PistonHeads Headlines...with more pictures - wait until you see the interior.

This makes me wonder with so many derivatives of the current Elise/Exige platform (Tesla, Mastretta MXT, Dodge Circuit), and the recently restyled 2010 Exige - will the next generation (2012) have a different chassis or will it just be different bodywork on the existing platform?

Seems like there is a lot of continued investment in this platform for it to be phased out in a couple of years.

It's got ~70 more HP and yet only goes 0-60 about as fast? That interior must be a bit heavy =D

107,500 Euros for a bling-ed Lotus that needs to go on a diet?

Not for me.

Have Monsta cover your goodies with leather and now you have the same interior for under $3000 (guessing based on his latest TBA pricing on a few pieces).

I don't think I've ever seen "Airbag" embossed in day-glo orange before. (See passenger airbag, in RoadDad's pic)

But what do you guys think of all these other variations and brands using the 111 platform when, as I understand the Mike Kimberly business plan, the Elise/Exige will be replaced in 2012?

Is it possible the next Elise/Exige will just be on the same chassis?

I cried a little when I saw that Dodge was using the Elise platform too.

i guess they couldn't even get their own steering wheel.

I wonder how much lotus makes off of selling their design/chasis to these companies

Well, it´s a nice evolution of the old design, but that´a bit too retro for me.
It lacks a bit of agressivity to it.
But I am sure there might be some people out-there looking exactly for that retro-touch (just look the success of the new Mini in Europe!).

I find the price way too high for what it is.
If I had 100,000 to spend, I´d personaly either take an Elise S1 with a sick Honda engine swap or I´d get a new Elise SC.
Cheaper, sexier IMHO.
Here you basivally pay for the doors. Which I wouldn´t mind to see on a future Elise, I have to admit.

Very clever from Lotus, to use other brands to come up with solutions for them (the Opel Speedster brought the new soft-top system, now Melkus brings a reliable gull-wings system...)

In the end, mixed feelings from my side. Maybe it looks better in the flesh.

On a sidenote, this chassis has the proportions to create very, very sexy race cars, but everybody makes ugly or boring things out of it (Opel/Vauxhall, Tesla, Dodge, even Lotus with the Europa S).
Really, the designers that made the Elise S2 did an amazing job, which seems really hard to top.

EDIT:
Melkus RS 2000: Der wiedergeborene Ost-Sportler - Forum - Speed Heads
The gull wing doors even have windows on the roof-parts. That is cool! I want these doors on the next Elise!!!

EDIT 2:

I have to say, it´s growing on me...

EDIT 3:
OK, I´m sold. It´a cool car!

As soon as I saw the doors I knew it was going to be heavier. The fact that it is heavier and not significantly faster ruins it for me. If you are going to essentially remake another manufacturers car, you should at least come out with a better product at the end. Of course, I'm probably not in the market segment they are looking for, anyways.

They forgot to also label "Steering Wheel", "Shifter", and "Air Vent"
