Any of the other Land Rover owners here been to a "Wheels" event?

The salesman at the local dealership keeps asking me if I want to attend one of these with my Range Rover.

I had a Land Rover Discovery a few years back. I never went to a wheels event due to the fact that my Land Rover only worked the first 3 days of every new pay period. It would then go back into the shop for whatever un-godly reason that time and would come back a week later and a repair bill that magically took over half of every pay check. After 7 months, a dozen trips to the auto garage, and what I had figured to total roughly 9 grand I determined it was time to bring my Land Rover Experience to a permanent close.

I never had the confidence to drive my Land Rover further than the grocery store, let alone a wheels event or especially a Safari!

Whenever anyone says to me "nice Lotus, I bet it's really expensive to maintain." I always say: "Well it's cheaper and more reliable than a Land Rover.- EVEN ON A SAFARI!"

I feel your pain, and have all my fingers and toes crossed, as well as an extended warranty and I sacrificed a virgin and a goat, so i think I am good...

I hope.

Too Funny! I hear that the other models are more reliable than the Disco's. Especially the first Gen Discovery. My experience was just so brutal that I would have a hard time ever getting back into one for myself. Extended Warranty is a saving point for you and a wise investment. I could have used one on mine! Good luck brother!

Of course, I'd have to change out my aftermarket rims...

Apparently, they want to teach me how to drive my Range Rover off-road, presumably so I can pay them more money to fix it when I scratch and dent it...

here is the official line: Land Rover US - Drive Off-Road - Retailer Driving Events

DrJ, they are certainly worth attending. The latest one was earlier this month, in Wayzata. They carved a fun course into the woods next to Lake Minnetonka. I have driven my Land Rovers at these events and have never damaged any of them. For those who don't want to take their own vehicle, or try a different one, they do bring several dealership cars.

If you have not experienced what the vehicle can do off road, you are missing out on the fun side of the machine. It's kind of like using a Lotus exclusively to drive to work, and never making it to a track.

If they do another event at the orchard in Jordan (off 169, MN river bluffs), you must go. They have done it twice in the past and have had an amazing course.

Thats encouraging, thank you. I have to admit, I am curious about it but wary of damaging my shiny new Range Rover.

I have done these in the past with a Discovery. It is generally a fun, safe way to see what your LR can do. I would recommend pulling the running boards off if you have them. They are probably the easiest part of the vehicle to damage.
